25[M4F] Anywhere/LDR - Longterm Relationship.

2020.11.27 18:19 LetMeIn95 25[M4F] Anywhere/LDR - Longterm Relationship.

I'm looking for a relationship, or whatever-ship with the interest of developing it into a long-term relationship if we get along.
I'm not looking for causal short term fun. I want a VERY DEEP emotional connection => Love.
What I look for in you is
I would love healthy co-dependency/ clingyness. Shy, introvert, and little socially awkward people are preferred since I'm one. 😅
Note: I have no appearance requirements, AT ALL. If that is a priority for you, dating apps would a good choice.
I'll keep it short, and I have super big post if you want to know me extensively. But basically I'm INFP. Eg.yptian and live in MiddleEast/gulf country GMT+4
Thank you for reading.
Please don't be from GMT+8 Timezone. Having 4 hours time difference is okay, but having those 4 hours ahead of me is just frustrating.
Please write a small introduction instead of "hey" or I'll not bother replying, and its preferred if you initially use a message instead of chat.

2020.11.27 00:23 Poetry_Critical Why western women or girls do not prefer men from eastern world background for dating or relationship?

ok. so My culture background originally comes from Afghanistan and i was born and grew up in Pakistan. Since i have move to Australia at the age of 21, its been over 8 yrs now. Never had a relationship with any girl in Australia in University , at workplace or anywhere. Yes im abit nice guy but not always though, i tried to approach women many times. Im not religious either, infact I became atheist secretly. which made my life even more complicated. and my friends and family members around me who are religous they have negative attitude towards ppl who leave islam. leaving religion is like social bycot in muslim world if you know what i mean. almost all my family members already know that im just pretending and i dont believe in islam from inside. Some of my close friends know or have doubts too. And im most of the time alone with my problems. im close to 30, no relationship ever had. hence all my 20s was wasted... if i marry from my own community , girls are all either religious and want religious person for marriage. for which im not fit for. i can just keep pretending to be religious to get married. but i dont want to keep pretending and neither i want religion to interfere in my other remaining 30 yrs of life.
so i have been lo0king into finding someone who is not religious or at least open with differences in personal belief. and I see these quality in most western women. and hope to find someone who is not too much feminist. I tried everywhere for date, but i notice they dont prefer Asian, or middle eastern men for relationship unless the women are ugly or 4 kids with them.
so here Question arise in my mind. why western women do no prefer Asians, middle east or even a muslim men to marry or relationship?

2020.11.26 19:13 cal_ness Fear is a Sliver

I have a debilitating fear of clusters. It’s called trypophobia.
Lotus pods. Egg sacks. Compound insect eyes. At the sight of clusters, I go inward to an extremely dark place.
A horror-obsessed friend of mine suggested, jokingly, that I look up some Lovecraft-related imagery. Tentacles covered in millions of eyes –– I didn’t talk to him for a month after that. He felt terrible, but his remorse didn’t get the image out of my head. It didn’t stop the anxiety attacks I started having either.
My current therapist said I should spend more time reflecting on what happened last year. I journaled for a while, but eventually, it felt too lonely. I started going to a self-help group for phobias that aren’t recognized by the mainstream medical community. But I felt too exposed. And to be honest, I got tired of listening to people talk about stuff like nomophobia (fear of not having your cell phone), heliophobia (fear of sunlight), and ablutophobia (fear of bathing).
I don’t mean to minimize anyone’s fears, but when combined, those three phobias sound like the basic affliction of being a cis-gendered, white, large adult son millennial. Most of the people in the group were. Kurts and Skylers and Tommys. Promising high school athletes who got fat and depressed and moved into their mom’s basements.
Not to engage in phobia superiority, but sitting in mom’s basement, doom scrolling on your phone, refusing to come up for air or basic hygiene? Trypophobia seems a little bit more substantive, especially given what it eventually led to in my life.
I’ve come to realize that fear is a sliver. It burrows underneath your skin. The more you think about it, the deeper it crawls. Fear, left untended, festers. And then eventually, your body either absorbs it or finds a way to shove it out. I’m not sure why some people get lucky, and others get stuck with their phobias forever.
My body absorbed my fear of clusters. Trypophobia is part of my DNA now.
Let’s go back to how all of this started. In the mid-2010s, a bunch of photoshopped images of body parts superimposed with lotus pods started circulating the Internet. The first one I saw was a cheek. It belonged to a beautiful model, but the photoshopped lotus pod made it look like there were holes in the side of her face, with little eyes staring out of the darkness. When I saw an image of a breast, the nipple superimposed with another lotus pod, I lost it. I’d never had an anxiety attack before, but I had one then. I shut myself in the closet until my boyfriend came over and finally got me to come out.
“It’s fake.” My boyfriend at the time, just trying to help. “Here, look at this.”
He pulled up photos of lotus pods on his phone, but it didn’t help. The ream of Google images was filled with pictures of honeycomb, egg sacks, insect eyes, some of the other things I mentioned. But all of it revolted me equally. The sliver dug deeper.
About six months later, I found out that my fear of clusters had a name. Trypophobia was a thing. Apparently Kendall Jenner has it. I went further down the Internet rabbit hole. I started calling in sick to work. I stopped working out, which was unlike me, given that I rowed for the varsity crew team in college. It got to the point where I was so debilitated by my fear of clusters that my boyfriend went to my parents. They drove to the city and staged an intervention. Everyone insisted that I see a therapist.
That was three therapists ago. I’ve been fired multiple times, which I didn’t even know was a thing until it happened. Apparently therapists are human after all. They can reach their wit’s end, too. Especially when listening to people talk about weird stuff like trypophobia.
Therapy didn’t help, even though I went regularly for six months. I still saw clusters everywhere I looked. The anxiety attacks continued, and they started happening more frequently.
Everything changed one morning when, getting out of the shower, I saw an oozing batch of clusters growing on my right knee.
“I’ll admit it,” said my boyfriend, visibly grossed out but doing his best to be strong for me. “There’s a rash. But hold on, I don’t think it’s as bad as you think.”
He pulled up an article on his phone.
“I think it’s just shingles. Anyone who's had chickenpox can get it.”
Chickenpox? You mean that sickness we get when we’re kids. The one where clusters of red bumps break out all over your body?
“It’s caused by stress,” he said. “We both know how stressed you’ve been.”
There was a long pause, me staring at the batch of eggs or eyes or bumps or whatever they were that had bubbled up on the skin around my right kneecap. Sure, shingles. Call it whatever you want. I couldn’t help feeling that the rash was staring up at me.
“You should go to the doctor,” my boyfriend said.
I could hear the strain in his voice. He wanted the craziness to end. I did too.
Several weeks later (navigating our messed-up healthcare system by first seeing a doctor, getting a referral to a dermatologist, then waiting around until they finally had an opening), I got in to see someone. I remember the conversation clearly. It’s seared into my mind.
“Shingles,” the dermatologist confirmed.
His name was Dr. Harman. The guy creeped me out, more of a pediatrician-type than a specialist. He talked to me like I was five. He had this flirty, dismissive way of interacting, couched in what felt like fake concern.
“Two hundred thousand cases a year, kiddo. It resolves itself in a few weeks, but that doesn’t make it any less painful. I had shingles during the first year of med school.”
Dr. Harman went to his computer and started typing.
“I’m going to prescribe a capsaicin patch,” he said. “You can get the cream over the counter, but the prescription-strength patch is very effective. Just leave it on until I see you again and you’ll be right as rain. We’ll take a look in three weeks. My nurse will schedule a follow up.”
He winked at me. I imagined him as a fly. A big compound eye made of thousands of little ones, all winking at the same time.
“It’ll feel kinda gunky, but don’t peek at it,” Dr. Harman said. “Pinkie promise? Let the patch work its magic.”
I ignored the pinkie promise, wanting to be as far away from Dr. Harman as I could get.
I was about to leave when he stopped me.
“You said you’ve also had anxiety attacks. Have you considered anti-anxiety medication? While you wait this out, I think you could benefit from a benzodiazepine. They’ll help when you have anxiety attacks. Benzos, as they’re called on the street, are extremely addictive. There can be side effects, too. But I would write a short-term prescription if you’re interested, just until our follow up. We’d start with a low dose, then gradually introduce more meds if it’s proving to be effective.”
I walked out of Dr. Harman’s office with the prescription for the capsaicin patch and another one for a three week supply of Klonopin. When I told my parents about the pills, they were worried at first. I had a distant cousin who’d gotten addicted to the stuff. I gave my parents permission to call Dr. Harman. He assured them that it was short-term, three weeks, just until the shingles cleared up and we had our follow up appointment. I’d never had an addictive personality, so we all agreed it was the best way forward.
True to my word, I didn’t lift up the patch. I didn’t “take a peek,” as Dr. Harman put it. The Klonopin helped too. I can’t deny that I felt a magnetic pull, at times, to look up pictures of clusters. But then I’d take an extra Klonopin and stop myself. The benzos really leveled me out, which both my boyfriend and I were grateful for.
When the check-in appointment arrived two weeks later, I wanted my boyfriend to come with me, but he had work. I went to Dr. Harman’s office alone. He lifted up the patch.
“Now isn’t this funny,” he said.
He patted my shoulder. I shuddered. Goosebumps. More clusters.
“This happens,” he said. “The treatment doesn’t work overnight.”
The shingles had gotten worse. They weren’t shingles anymore. My right knee was covered in tiny holes. It looked almost like it had been photoshopped with a lotus pod. Dr. Harman called in his nurse, who did her best to calm me down, averting her stare from my knee as she rubbed my back.
“I want you to see a specialist,” Dr. Harman said. “He’s extremely talented. There’s a psychosomatic element to this. I can’t help with that part.”
He prescribed extra strength capsaicin cream (I refused to put on another patch) and upped my dose of Klonopin.
That night, at home, my boyfriend broke up with me. Or at least, he put our relationship on pause.
“I can’t do this anymore,” he said. “I’m so sorry about what’s happening, but this is too much. It’s interfering with my work. It’s interfering with my happiness. I want to be there for you, but I have to take care of myself.”
Despite my pleas to be given a second chance, he left, promising to revisit things once I got the phobia and disgusting skin condition under control. My parents offered to come up and see me. They sort of insisted. But I said no. I needed to deal with this on my own.
The specialist recommended by Dr. Harman came to my apartment for a house call. He was friendly, calming. Unlike Dr. Harman, he put me at ease. He was middle-aged, maybe forty-five or fifty, and extremely handsome due in part to his personality. He reminded me of an older, better looking Seth Rogan. A bit chubby. Curly hair. Darker features than Seth Rogan, darker hair too. But he was the kind of person who puts you at ease as soon as they walk into the room.
His name was Dr. Miller. Craig Miller. He carried a black briefcase in, which was full of his medical tools.
“I like doing house calls,” he said. “This is not the kind of thing you should be coming into a stuffy clinic for. I’m an osteopath. I used to work at the same dermatology clinic as Dr. Harman, but I eventually decided the corporate lifestyle wasn’t for me.”
Dr. Miller showed me his medical license, even though I didn’t ask to see it. Then he started examining my knee.
“I’m so sorry,” he said. “That looks incredibly painful.”
He poked around a bit with a set of tweezers, gently, but it still hurt like hell.
“I hear that you have trypophobia as well.”
Dr. Miller was the first person to acknowledge that it was a real thing. Dr. Harman hadn’t. My therapist didn’t, and neither did my boyfriend or my parents.
“Yes,” I said. “It’s awful.”
Dr. Miller nodded.
“There is a psychosomatic element to this,” he said. “But I want you to ignore the word psycho in that term. You’re not crazy. You’re just stressed, which I think is completely understandable given the circumstances.”
He sat back in his chair, thinking for a second. Then he reached into his briefcase and pulled out a plastic package. The package was sealed, sterilized, unused. Inside was a set of tweezers like the ones he used to dig around the rash on my knee, what looked like a dental pick, and a small metal thing. It looked like a stamp with a smooth surface.
For the next half hour, Dr. Miller talked me through everything.
“It doesn’t make sense for you to come into the office three times a day, which is what it will take,” he said. “Think of it like digging out a sliver. To get rid of the toxins that are causing this, you have to be vigilant. Essentially, it’s a bunch of slivers, each of which is causing a mini infection.”
“Pick,” he said, digging in as gently as he could. “Loosen. Tweeze. Smooth. Pretty simple once you memorize it.”
He showed me again. I winced but stayed strong, knowing it would help.
“Needle. Tweezers. Stamp. Needle. Tweezers. Stamp.”
He put down the tools and picked up a tube of capsaicin cream, squirting some onto his pudgy index finger.
“Apply the capsaicin cream liberally.”
It stung like hell.
“Rinse and repeat five times,” he continued, “and complete the process three times a day. I want you to do it morning, noon, and night. Keep taking the Klonopin as well. As an osteopath, I’m not a huge fan of the stuff, but I think it’s vital in your case. I’m going to up your dose a bit. Until you get in to see Dr. Harman for your follow up next week, let’s double it.
My knee throbbed viciously, but for the first time in months, I had hope. After we finished the initial treatment, it felt better, as though we’d already excised some of the toxins.
Dr. Miller left. I decided to do one more regimen for good measure before bed.
***
I did the treatment, as prescribed, for a few days. It felt so good to be doing something proactive. The little holes started to disappear. My fear of clusters started disappearing too. The disgusting shingle-like infestation began spreading a bit from my knee, crawling into the area below my quadricep and toward the “fibular collateral ligament.” That’s just a fancy word I found. It’s that thick tendon on the backside of your knee.
I eventually amped up Dr. Miller’s regimen to keep it at bay: twice in the morning, twice in the afternoon, once around dinner time, and once right before bed. I kept taking the Klonopin as he prescribed, doubling the dose.
I spent a lot of time in bed because it hurt to walk. I didn’t realize how essential your knee is to the act of walking. When I called Dr. Miller to give him an update, he recommended that I order a cane. I got one on Amazon. It helped ease the pressure.
The day of my follow up dermatology appointment came a week later. I coated my knee in capsaicin cream, covered it in plastic wrap, and bound everything together with an Ace bandage.
My ex-boyfriend said he’d take the morning off work and come with me to the dermatologist. He was so happy my fear was going away. Plus, there was no way I was driving. The regimen had helped, but you need a lot more knee strength to press the gas and the break than you might think. My boyfriend gagged initially at the smell of the cream, but we kept the windows down as we drove to Dr. Harman’s office and had a pretty good talk about life.
Once we checked in at the clinic, I walked into the examination room, and my boyfriend helped me up onto the table.
“An Ace bandage, hmm?” asked Dr. Harman. “The patch was falling off?”
I told him I’d stopped wearing the patch like he recommended.
“Call me crazy,” said Dr. Harman, “but I remember asking you to promise not to take off the patch.”
I said we must have remembered it differently. But I assured Dr. Harman that the combination of extra strength capsaicin cream and the excision regimen had made things better, even though the area with the shingles had gotten a little messy as a result.
“Excision regimen?” asked Dr. Harman, looking thoroughly confused. “Well, anyhow, let’s take a look.”
When Dr. Harman unwrapped my knee, his nurse screamed. My ex-boyfriend gagged, then started vomiting in the corner of the examination room.
Good god,” said Dr. Harman, his face white as a sheet. “What have you done?”
I looked down at my knee and got hit with the worst stench I’ve ever smelled. The bone of my kneecap, swollen tendons, and everything else in the six-inch diameter surrounding where the shingles had been was a mangled mess of flesh. A dark blanket of gangrene had begun spreading across everything. The exposed veins pulsed, throbbing, almost black. They snaked up and down my leg, constricting the small amount of healthy flesh that was left.
“What the hell have you done?!” demanded Dr. Harman.
I told Dr. Harman about Dr. Miller’s regimen, about how I’d called him right after our check-in at two weeks, just like I’d been instructed to do.
“I’ve never heard of anyone named Dr. Miller,” said Dr. Harman, stumbling into the cabinets behind him. “And I haven’t seen you since our first appointment three weeks ago.”
***
The next few hours were chaotic. My ex-boyfriend stumbled out of the examination room, mute, his eyes glazed over. The doctors and nurses shot my knee full of various liquids, holding me down as I screamed in pain, then rushed me to the emergency room. The ER doctor insisted that we amputate. I screamed in protest. My parents came from out of town, bombing over the mountain pass as fast as their SUV would take them. The ER team continued treating my leg. They brought in a plastic surgeon. He suggested we amputate as well. I got a third opinion. Another specialist said that amputation was the only option, that it was a matter of life and death. I was still screaming when they covered my nose and mouth in a plastic mask and the anesthesia kicked in.
I woke up hours later with a tingling sensation in my right leg. But when I looked down, I saw that it was gone. All that remained was a stump that extended six inches below my pelvis. Blood had already leaked through the bandage.
***
The hardest part about all of this is the distance I feel from the rest of humankind nowadays. The support groups helped for a bit. I even made a few friends who I keep in touch with. But in college, I’d been an athlete. I’d always been active. Those days were gone. My existence had become sedentary within a few short weeks.
My parents paid for the most expensive, advanced prosthetic possible. It sort of feels like I’m walking, even though seventy-five percent of my right leg has been cut off. Since starting PT, I’ve graduated from a walker to a cane. The doctors have mixed opinions about when I’ll be able to walk again on my own without assistance.
For months, I insisted there had been a man named Dr. Craig Miller. I insisted that I’d come into Dr. Harman’s office at two weeks for a scheduled check-in, that Dr. Harman had been the one to recommend seeing Dr. Miller. He vehemently denied it. We all thought there’d be a malpractice suit for a month or so, but there just wasn’t enough evidence –– my word against his.
I told the authorities that Dr. Miller was a middle-aged, darker featured version of Seth Rogan. There was no record of any doctor named Craig Miller in the state. There was a doctor named Craig Miller on the east coast, but he was a geriatrician. There were a dozen others, as well, but none were osteopath dermatologists who did house calls. None that recommended treatment regimens like the one I’d done. Dr. Harman also insisted that I’d abused the Klonopin and that he had given me precise instructions about the amount to take, that he’d told me there can be adverse side effects if it's abused.
The capsaicin cream, rubbed into the raw wound, had caused the infection that made me lose my leg. A psychiatrist I was assigned to see was furious that I’d been prescribed Klonopin. They confirmed it had caused severe psychotic episodes, exacerbated by my underlying fear of clusters. Dr. Harman got a slap on the wrists and went back to his dermatology practice.
I still have a fear of clusters. Trypophobia is a part of my DNA. But with a lot of help from my therapist and my parents, it’s gotten better. “Better” doesn’t mean my leg grew back, but at least I’m not paralyzed by anxiety anymore.
I even started dating someone I met in the physical therapy clinic. He has a prosthetic leg as well. It makes our relationship more comfortable. We understand each other. We move at roughly the same speed. But my life is changed forever.
Trypophobia still isn’t recognized as a mental disorder by the mainstream medical community. It’s “an aversion,” something Kendall Jenner complained about one time on a talk show.
Most people write me off as a crazy person. The Internet has been vicious. But Dr. Craig Miller, that phantom figment of my imagination. He seemed so real. I’ve started to forgive myself, but it’s taken a lot of hard work.
I appreciate being able to tell my story here. Maybe if enough people come forward, my mental disorder will be formally recognized. No amount of topical cream and anti-anxiety meds can rid me of my fear of clusters. Once upon a time, it was a sliver. Now it’s a part of my physiology.
“Debilitate” is defined as follows: to make (someone) weak and infirm.
Debilitated by fear of clusters? Or debilitated due to self-induced amputation?
Take your pick.

2020.11.25 20:31 alaskansteve It’s Coming 🤯

There is GREAT news, and as always, I build up to it, but we are finally HERE. The moment we have been waiting for. The first counter punch to be thrown by Trump. Lin Wood (LW) said Sidney Powell (SP) will be filing her "epic" lawsuit in GA today. He said the media will do all they can to discredit everything in it, but it won't work.
https://i1.wp.com/politicallyincorrecthumor.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/question-of-the-day-when-party-cheats-in-front-of-world-what-do-you-think-they-will-do-behind-your-back.jpg?resize=518%2C376&ssl=1
Dems are in a world of hurt, and I find it hilarious that this is about to get filed right before Thanksgiving meaning their holiday is going to be ruined, and anyone unlucky enough to have to share the same space with these miserable self loathing losers will have their day ruined as well as we ALL know liberals cannot be civil, cannot keep peacefully to themselves, and will start an ugly confrontation. After all, they have hate in their heart and cancer in their souls, but they have more.
A study in March showed 50% of liberals ADMIT to having mental health issues. This is what we are dealing with. If you don't think they are SCARED of what is coming, you haven't been paying attention. Everywhere you turn there are pleas and threats for Trump to concede with censorship and cover ups at all locations. YouTube just censored and demonetized OAN. IBM shutdown 57 channels on CloudHub. They are telling you that if you join Parler, you are a racist Nazi. That is LITERALLY what they are saying.
If you try to like a post from Trump on FakeBook, you get a warning that it is a lie (essentially). Rachel Madcow said anyone contesting the election results should go to jail. Lyin' Paul Ryan said Trump should concede. A Pantifa leader said Trump had better concede by Sunday OR ELSE, and he reminded us he had weapons.
We just learned that since the election, FakeBook has been censoring Breitbart. Great conservative mind Jordan Peterson is about to have a new book published, and the liberal soy riddled snowflakes at the company begged them not to publish it and broke out in TEARS at the meeting when told they were going to. This is ALL an admission that they cannot win in the war of ideology and facts. If they could, they wouldn't need to threaten or censor. Their ideas and facts would be all they need to rely on. Since they fail on all fronts in those realms, they resort to threats, censorship, lies. and true criminal activity. The criminality is insane, and I cannot believe how open it is.
These people face decades in jail. PA and GA just switched the election law days before the election without approval by the legislature meaning it is 100% illegal. It is truly like playing a basketball game on the road, and the home court refs say that free throws by the home team count for five points each, now deal with it and accept it. The PA Supreme Court is absolutely criminally insane. They have made illegal ruling after illegal ruling and just said that ballots without names, dates or addresses were valid!
These people are going to be at BEST disbarred, and likely thrown in jail. They ignored an ORDER from the Supreme Court to separate ballots! What will they use for their defense? Dim Whitmer stepped in herself to let everyone know that there are no records of her $25 million deal with Dominion. Yes, there actually are despite you burying them. The NSA will have them, and I for one hope she gets true justice. We have rarely seen someone so tyrannical in office in all of US history.
The criminal thug from Dominion illegally updated the software on 30,000 voting machines in GA right before the election. As bad as the security on the system already was, any update has to be approved for just this reason, and it wasn't. LW said that this election is about the survival of the greatest nation on Earth and that every lie would be exposed. He also said that the GA Sec'y of State and Governor Kemp continued the fraud during the recount and audit! Good grief!
These d'bags truly want to go to jail for life. EVERYTHING they do is being captured, and they still commit crimes knowing this. Remember, this is one of the nation's best attorneys saying what has happened. He isn't going to lie just to make conservatives feel better. If he says it is true, it is practically gospel (small g). You would think that alone would get the attention of liberal fraud deniers who are literally looking at years in prison, but their hubris is endless. They are living in a fantasy world, and Jenna Ellis said Pedo Joe picking his cabinet is the same as picking a fantasy football team. EXACTLY!
In WI, there are strict criteria to be able to use an absentee ballot. The most they have ever had in one election was 20,000. This time it was 120,000. They think this won't be noticed or caught? Remember when I said trusted sources might not be trusted after all this? Laura Ingraham said it is time to accept Pedo Joe's victory. Who in their right mind looks at the fraud, hears what the Trump legal team says and reaches that conclusion, especially a supposed Trump supporter? It defies logic.
Two studies showed the influence of media. Media suppression of seven major issues related to the campaign swayed 17% of voters to Pedo Joe. Topics like Hunter Biden , the Trump economy, etc. Another study showed Google influenced at LEAST 6 million votes. This is actually GREAT news. Not kidding. You have to believe and understand this ENTIRE election was the greatest sting in the history of humanity.
How do sting operations work? Do you grab the perp before they commit the crime? No, you let them commit the crime, catch them then show the evidence of their guilt. Trump's EO made it a CRIME to spread disinformation and propaganda to interfere with the election. We now have two genuine studies showing this was the case with empiric data. This is going to be used to destroy the media and tech giants. Trump will wield unbelievable power. He will be able to not just freeze, but also SEIZE assets from criminal organizations.
Trump hasn't answered a media question since the election, and why would he. Leave them in the dark, nervous, scared, and clueless as to what he knows and has on them. This is his Sun Tzu inspired game plan. Let their anxiety lead to them rash maneuvers. He did this with the impeachment, RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA, etc. The media and deep state would come out with a flurry against him, and he would sit back calmly like Colombo then use the facts to utterly decimate them, and that is happening right now.
Is this all wishful thinking on my part? Not a chance. A three star general, a guy named McInerey, said Trump got 410 electoral votes and 80 million popular votes. Who are you going to believe? A three star general with access to the confiscated server, or Rachel Madcow?
General Flynn's son said that we cannot imagine what is happening behind the scenes right now. Patriots everywhere. Keep the faith, we will win. Again, who do you believe? A general with the deepest clearance to the REAL data, or Alyssa Milano?
Need more? The Overstock CEO is a billionaire libertarian who has apparently been working with the Trump team providing huge amounts of funding. He created his own investigative team and said there is evidence of fraud everywhere. According to Robert Steele who is personal friends with SP and speaks with her daily, there are three immensely influential billionaires working to expose the fraud. That is HUGE, and much more in a minute.
LW said this election fraud was a middle finger to America, and that evidence of fraud keeps pouring in every day. He said the enemy wants YOU demoralized, so don't give in to their wishes and game plan.
But here is where it gets REALLY interesting. People looked at the Trump legal team and realized that SP and LW are pursuing the CRIMINAL side of things while Giuliani and Jenna Ellis are pursuing the Constitutional side of things. SP and LW have said over and over again people are going to jail, and LW said Pedo Joe himself was going to jail.
Supposedly, SP is targeting liberal republican traitors. I cannot wait.
But here is the story of the day. In order for Pedo Joe to get "transitional" funds from the GSA, he has to BY LAW issue a statement showing any conflict of interest or influence from foreign nations or operatives. Now do you see why the released the Hunter Biden laptop when they did? If he denies any, the Hunter laptop is state evidence #1 to his lie. Does he admit he is a China and Ukraine operative? Of course not, he is going to lie and get another decade in jail.
Even more interesting, the transition time allows Trump to fill ANY vacant seats for 30 days. There are dozens of vacancies if not more because the dems refuse to approve the appointees hoping Pedo Joe gets the steal. Trump can now fill those with hard core patriots. This GSA thing is a blessing in disguise, and likely a trap.
Robert Steele has said this many times, and he now says he got inside confirmation that Wall Street over the years has stolen $100 TRILLION from US citizens and laundered another $100 TRILLION in drug and trafficking money. Supposedly Trump is going after $100 trillion from Wall Street. Steele said he agreed to $17 trillion already, but SP is pushing him to get more. That is the criminal side.
Remember when Flynn's son said you can't imagine what is happening behind the scenes? I can. Arrests. Thousands of arrests with confessions. By the way, LW also told us the Kracken is a cyber warfare program of the DoD. The Pedo Joe team is taking on a military sting that was planned for years ago. The military ALWAYS enters an engagement with overwhelming force with the philosophy that a battle is won before the first shot is fired. You KNOW who will win this battle, and the results are going to entertain us for YEARS! Aren't you excited?

Remember when I told you the anons were tracking military air traffic over the US and said it is at record levels? Overseas, ALL military aircraft cut off their transponders over the east Mediterranean Sea meaning they went dark. They almost exclusively do this when performing a combat operation. Big things are taking place.
Here's a fun story. Kim Jun Un's rich nephew met with the CIA for some unknown reason, and has been missing ever since. NEVER meet with the CIA if at all possible.
Misc items. Let's start with the fact the Dow hit a record 30,000. Artificial since business profits don't match, but still a sign of economic optimism. ‪In three weeks‬, Fox News has lost HALF its viewers. Crazy.
Pedo Joe's agenda is truly insane. Pardon 11 million illegals in the first hundred days is just one idea. He just told us it was our patriotic duty to distance and wear masks. No, it our duty to resist and fight the tyranny. I read more and more articles every day from people urging you to fight back, rise up and resist. They are starting to take a more militant tone too.
The pandemic was just an excuse for tyranny. Mexifornia juts arbitrarily banned indoor dining at restaurants after Newsolini did just that. A huge college in NY is not going to let kids leave campus to go home without a negative CV-19 test. Good luck defending that in court. In NYC they are putting up Nazi like CV-19 checkpoints at key bridges, exit ways and at the airport. The CDC is telling MDs they have to warn people the side effects of the vaccine are terrible. I have to wonder if there is something unknown in this vaccine. It has had horrible side effects, has been shown to have no long term protection, alters your DNA, and has agents in it never put in a vaccine before. (WHY does it need to be kept at -70 degrees?). This is NOT the sort of thing you rush, but not only are they rushing it, they are making it mandatory to do things like travel, go to school or work. I imagine some companies will go bankrupt from this. So why push it when we have therapeutics? Money is the obvious answer, but is there a tracking agent in it? I wonder.
Regardless, the lockdowns are WAY worse than the disease. There were more suicides in Japan last month than people who died of CV-19 in Japan during the entire pandemic. The biggest school district in VA saw an 83% increase in "F"s related to online schooling.
Corey Booker is suggesting the gov't confiscate farmland and give it to blacks. This is LITERALLY what they did to ruin Zimbabwe, and are doing right now in South Africa.

2020.11.25 16:00 zzonkmiles The skinny on mid-level bidding (VERY LONG POST)

There have been a lot of posts here about A-100 bidding and second-tour bidding. But there is not a lot of information about mid-level bidding. Granted, this information may not be useful for most readers of this page since they are often on the outside looking into the Foreign Service or won't be bidding on mid-level jobs for another tour or two. But I hope this post can give future mid-level bidders something to look forward to. (Moderators: If I've included any information that should not be public, feel free to snip or delete as necessary.)
Entry-level officers (ELOs) are generally required to complete two full entry-level tours as part of their EL (entry-level) service requirement. This usually means completing two two-year tours, but some ELOs complete a 12-month tour for their second assignment, which also counts towards fulfilling your EL service requirement. Special Incentive Posts (such as South Sudan, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc.) are 12-month assignments. Some Washington positions may also be 12 months long.
An ELO's first two tours are directed, which means a career development officer (CDO) makes the assignment. You can state your preferences, which may be affected by multiple variables (medical clearances, timing, language training, security clearance restrictions, geographic diversity restrictions, out-of-cone restrictions, etc.), but ultimately the CDO makes the decision about where you are going.
When bidding on your third tour and beyond, your CDO is much less involved in the process, at least on the front end. You as the bidder have the responsibility for looking up posts you're interested in serving at. You can bid on as few as five positions or as many as 10. If you are an out-year language bidder, you can bid on as few as one position if you'd like. Untenured officers cannot bid out-year at the mid-level.
Your bidding cycle is determined by your transfer eligibility date (the date when your current assignment ends). Most FSOs/FSSs are in the summer bidding season. There is also a winter bidding season, an SIP (Special Incentive Post) bidding season, a DCM/PO season, etc. Your bidding season will typically begin about a year before you are scheduled to leave your current post.
The advantage of mid-level bidding over entry-level bidding is that you have a lot more control over where you do NOT want to go. In A-100, you have to bid on everything. For second tour bidding, you have to bid on X number of positions in Y geographical areas with Z positions in your current cone and so on. But for mid-level, if you see a job in Country X on the list of available positions and you want nothing to do with that part of the world or that particular foreign language or you know your prior coworker from hell is currently the political chief there, then you can simply not bid on that position at all. Are you a management-coned FSO who wants to try an economics tour? Nothing is stopping you from bidding on this (other than possibly language or timing requirements). Do you only want to serve at English-speaking posts or posts that will ensure your children won't have to switch schools in the middle of the year? You can avoid bidding on positions that don't meet these requirements if you like.
If you are bidding on a consular position, you will need to solicit evaluations from your current and former colleagues. If you are bidding on a consular section chief position (including sole consular officer positions), you will need to contact the hiring official at post (typically the DCM or the current chief) and arrange an interview. If you are bidding on a consular position in DC, you will need to contact the POC listed in the vacancy announcement. For overseas consular positions, the Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA) will make the assignment decision (known as a "handshake"). For domestic consular positions, the actual offices make the hiring decisions. CA will offer you one handshake, and it might not be for the position at the top of your list. Post and CA must concur on section chief positions. CA does not require posts' concurrence for positions below the section chief level (such as deputies and unit chiefs).
For non-consular positions, you will need to solicit evaluations and references from your current and former colleagues, but using a different system. You will also need to contact the posts directly, which means you may be scheduling a lot of interviews and sending a lot of emails. The regional and functional bureaus may create a shortlist of candidates they would like to interview, and you may or may not be on this list. Similarly, these bureaus offer handshakes for these non-consular positions, so you may have to interview with post as well as the corresponding bureau in DC. It is possible to receive handshakes for multiple jobs if you are bidding on non-consular positions.
About a week before Handshake Day, some candidates may receive a "bureau leading candidate" email, which lets bidders know that they are the top candidate for one of the positions they bid on and gives the bidders the opportunity to indicate whether they would accept a handshake if offered. If the bidder gives an affirmative response, they will receive a formal handshake on Handshake Day (which they have one business day to accept). If the bidder declines the "bureau leading candidate" offer, the bureau or post will then send the "bureau leading candidate" email to their #2 choice.
Accepting a handshake locks you and the gaining office into an understanding that 1) you as the bidder will not look for any other job, and 2) the gaining office will not recruit any other candidates for the job they just offered you. Do not be that person who breaks a handshake because that's a good way to torpedo your corridor reputation. Once you accept a handshake, your CDO will register it in their HR systems and then you're dealing with assignment officers and scheduling training courses and such.
Lots of bidders don't receive BLC emails or handshakes at all. This can easily happen if you only bid on the super popular posts (Barcelona, Vancouver, Paris, Sydney, etc.) or if you simply aren't a competitive bidder. Third-tour bidders in particular are at the bottom of the food chain because they have the least experience, the smallest networks of people able to vouch for them, and the lowest rank. How can a third-tour bidder who speaks one foreign language be competitive with a fifth-tour bidder for the same position who speaks two or three foreign languages? Anyway, if you don't get a handshake on Handshake Day, you have to continue searching and lobbying for positions that are still available.
There are various strategies bidders use each bidding cycle. Some people intentionally submit garbage bid lists (full of the most popular jobs they likely won't get) only so they will not be labeled as a noncompliant bidder. Then after Handshake Day, they will start looking for new jobs that pop up because of unexpected curtailments, retirements, broken handshakes, tenure denials, newly created positions, etc. The rationale is that after Handshake Day, there are fewer bidders left that you are competing against and the posts/bureaus may be in more of a hurry to put someone in that position without being so picky. You can end up with some plum positions with this approach, but this can be really tough if you have a family that does not respond well to this unpredictability.
Another strategy is to bid primarily on posts that are designated as hard to fill. These posts are typically in tougher parts of the world (Sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East, Central Asia, some island posts, etc.) and attract far fewer bidders. With this approach, you can sometimes be the only bidder on a position and end up with a handshake that way. The tradeoff is that you may be toughing it out in Conakry, Jeddah, or Nuevo Laredo for two years with coworkers who have low morale.
Yet another strategy is to bid on domestic positions. There are always jobs available in Washington. Going back to Washington allows you to build your corridor reputation with major decision makers, such as office directors and deputy assistant secretaries and higher. Then when it's time for you to bid again on that sweet overseas job, you now have more people in high places who know you and the quality of your work. The tradeoff here is that living in Washington is expensive. Unlike most posts abroad, you are on the hook for your accommodations in DC (unless you're in training) and that can easily be more than $2000 a month.
Of course, there are other requirements that may restrict your bidding choices, such as security clearance restrictions, serving too long in any particular country, FICA-only positions (first in-cone assignment; these positions are not available to out-of-cone bidders), family medical clearance issues, schools that don't meet your children's needs, or staying in the United States too long. Mandatory home leave, functional training, and language training may also impact whether the timing can work for the positions you are looking at. But generally, mid-level bidding offers a lot more flexibility than entry-level bidding. The onus is on you, however, to find professionally enhancing positions that interest you and to lobby these offices for interviews. And if you've been a jerk or lazy or a creep in the past, this is when your corridor reputation can really come back to bite you.

2020.11.25 11:34 EW_Entrican The Battle of Stamberg

A note from the transcriber—
A few years ago I was doing some research in Vienna for a paper I was writing, and had been digging through the old State Archives for a week or so. I’d spent one particularly grey afternoon sifting through boxes of letters and manilla envelopes, and was about to leave with my portfolio when I discovered a small, wooden box buried between some ledgers.
It was dark, well-varnished, and decorated with silver latches, but its most impressive feature was an exquisitely detailed carving of a rook holding an arrow in its beak in the centre of the lid. While I don’t pretend to have any knowledge of antiques, I could tell that it was very old.
Having looked through its contents, I found a number of documents I can only describe as unusual. The first of these I read were the letters, diaries and personal effects of one Friedrich Holzer, whose life I have begun to piece together.
I won’t bore you with any of the minute details, but I will say that Holzer seemed to be a very normal young man who was perhaps slightly prone to nervous tendencies. Shortly after the outbreak of the First World War he decided to enlist as an infantry officer. In January, 1915, he was posted to the Galician Front as a second lieutenant, where he found himself part of a large counterattack.
I have done my best to transcribe what he wrote on the night of February 23rd, 1915, in a lengthy letter to his sister a month after an incident which he describes in great detail—the Battle of Stamberg..
Finally, it is worth mentioning that I have searched online and read through several books about the War in the east, but have found no account of the Battle of Stamberg, or any record at all of a place by that name. It therefore may be reasonably assumed that either Stamberg is the German name for a place called something else in Ukrainian, or that these are merely the mental ramblings of a shell-shocked young officer. Perhaps I have simply become the victim of an elaborate hoax.
However, there is also another possibility, although it isn’t one to which I give much credence, this being that the Austro-Hungarian General Staff and War Ministry took measures during or after the War to make sure that the town was forgotten, along with the ‘battle’ to which it lent its name, and in which Holzer took part.
What follows are his words alone.
February 23rd, 1915
Dear Maria
I apologize for this late letter but my mind has been otherwise preoccupied. I pray you are keeping well in this dismal season, and that you are not too lonely in the house without your Paul. I hope you find some solace in the company of little Anna; please do give her all my love. I am forlorn to have been without you all these last six months, but God willing I will return soon. I wish I could say that I am well, Maria, but I am not.
This is a very strange country. Somehow the little roads, the emptied fields and tracks of unchecked woodland no longer lend themselves to pleasant thoughts, but now instill in me nothing more than an itching sense of dread. As you know, dear sister, I am, by some degree, an apprehensive man, but I fear that there is something else in this wild land working at great cost to my spirit.
My mind has grown restless. I cannot help but glance behind the company every so often, and I find myself peering into the trees for hours in the evening. My dreams have been unsettling of late. Distant thoughts of home, now buried in my memory, drive away madness, but I fear I am succumbing to a festering anxiety. This attack of nerves would not be so troubling if I did not know the cause, but as it is, I do.
I have avoided the subject of Stamberg for a month now, but this morning, looking at the date, I could not believe that it has indeed been a month since our company advanced upon that place. I would censor myself more carefully, Maria, but as I am doubtful of any strategic significance in my account, and as my C.O. has ceased inspecting officers’ letters, I feel that I can report the incident while remaining within the limits of my duty.
Neither my men nor fellow officers have spoken of the battle, but I feel it is my responsibility to recall the events of the night of January 23rd, 1915, so that some record of it remains in the event of my capture or injury in the campaign.
Our division was facing the Russians, who had taken much ground in their last offensive, but their lines were cut short by trekking into difficult terrain. The mountains and hills here are unforgiving, and they had stopped with the arrival of the winter. In our sector the new front lay along some nameless river at the bottom of a valley, beyond which lay a strip of villages and hamlets. The location of our counterattack centered around three of these settlements, one of which was Stamberg, with which our regiment had been tasked with capturing.
Our attack began in the early morning but our company was so hindered by the snow that it was not until late afternoon that we reached the riverbank. Fortunately, the enemy had not been able to dig into the winter earth, and their defences crumbled without much difficulty. Nevertheless, they blew the bridge before we managed to take it, and though it was a shallow river, we could not ford the regiment at once over the ice. Instead, a detachment of the Bohemian Dragoons was sent ahead to run off any of the enemy stragglers, and an hour after they had crossed, our company was ordered ahead, with Captain Pisano leading the advance.
The village was separated from the river by an orchard, which was so unkempt and snow-swept that we could not pass through it in a skirmish line, and instead had to march by column up the narrow road. Every so often we would see an abandoned Maxim gun or an artillery carriage, and other evidence of the enemy’s withdrawal. Pisano remarked that we might be driving the Russians out of the Carpathians once and for all, but none of us believed it.
We had not marched for very long before Sergeant Krupp spotted a large pillar of smoke climbing out from above the trees. Indeed, having passed ahead, we all began to see a billowing black cloud rising from the direction of the village. He posited that the Russians must have torched it before they left, and that they truly were a barbaric people, though at the time I thought it more likely that it had been shelled by our artillery.
We arrived at a dry-stone wall that demarcated the village. It seemed to consist of two broad streets at a crossroads, in the middle of which was a narrow square and a church. Upon entering, Pisano ordered us to fan out and proceed with caution, and slowly, we entered Stamberg.
The first thing I noticed was the marked absence of citizenry. Private Reidl pointed out a row of outlying cottages where several horses had huddled together. I sent him to lead them out, where upon inspection we found that they were carrying saddlebags bearing the markings of the Bohemian Dragoons. We moved through the village carefully, checking every corner. However, as we approached the square, it became evident that no Russians remained. Half-emptied ammunition boxes were littered all over the main road, where mules drawing supply carts had been shot.
Upon entering the square I saw a group of twenty or so soldiers, as well as a young officer guarding a large pile of firewood by the church. Above them, the steeple was ablaze, sending clouds of black smoke up into the darkening sky. I estimated that there was no more than an hour of daylight left. As they saw us, one of them, the officer, strode towards us.
He began yelling that it was ‘about bloody time we showed up’. Captain Pisano, who is not one to suffer impertinence, demanded his name and regiment. He was one Lieutenant Farkas of the Dragoons, and gave a half-hearted salute upon the realising that he was speaking to a superior officer.
Pisano asked where his C.O. had got to, and Farkas explained that shortly after they arrived at the emptied village, they heard potshots being fired from the east. Major Rubeck, the commander, took the battalion into the eastern woods to drive out any remaining soldiers. Pisano cast an eye skyward, and asked whether the blazing church had been the Russians’ doing.
‘No sir, it’s a sniper nest,’ replied Farkas, ‘There’s five or six of the bastards up there, but the flames will flush them out. They stopped firing some time ago.’
‘For God’s sake man, why the hell didn’t you just ask them to surrender?’ cried the captain.
The lieutenant told him that they had refused to come down, and that the fire had been lit by the Hungarians.
‘What Hungarians?’ asked the confounded Pisano.
Farkas pointed at the soldiers guarding the woodpile, the meagre command left at the lieutenant’s disposal.
‘You mean they’re not your lot?’
Farkas responded in the negative, and said that the men had been there upon the Dragoons’ arrival. They were apparently from a Hungarian regiment that had gotten lost en route to its objective.
Hearing that, Pisano began to interrogate the soldiers, who were all fairly rattled by my estimation. He asked them when they had become separated from their unit, how long they had been lost for, and what their objective was. They said that they were a reconnaissance party, they had been separated for no more than twenty minutes, and that their objective was the adjacent village to the east.
‘That’s impossible, sir.’ remarked Sergeant Krupp, ‘That’s eight kilometres away. It would take an hour at least to get over that terrain.’
‘Not to mention the Russians,’ I added.
We all looked towards the crooked hill that marked the eastern woodland. Pisano asked whether they had found any Russian pickets in the woods. They said no, that the only resistance they encountered were the snipers in the church. He asked where the townspeople had got to, and both Farkas and the Hungarians said that Stamberg was deserted, but that there were still fires burning the grates of the houses.
‘What are you talking about?’ demanded the captain, ‘You mean to say the villagers just packed up and left?’
Farkas said that they likely fled when the battle began, but this was easily dismissed considering the only direction they could flee to was the north, towards the enemy lines. We were left without any plausible explanation, only that perhaps the Russians had forced them to leave with them, but none of us could reason why. As the sun gradually dipped below the horizon, Pisano took a brief circular walk about the village square. He took off his cap and lit a cigarette, which dangled limply from his mouth.
‘What on earth is going on?’ he finally said in a flustered tone, ‘There’s a battalion of rogue dragoons chasing shots in the woods, a dozen lost Hungarians guarding a ghost town, and not a fraction of enemy resistance save the bloody pacifist snipers in a burning steeple.’
He threw the cigarette into the snow, muttering that it was damned fortunate the Russians were more incompetent than we were, otherwise the offensive would have ended up a complete disaster. I postulated that perhaps the enemy was readying an ambush, to which the captain nodded, darting his eyes this way and that. He was evidently distracted, and I must confess that I too was stricken by a feeling that we were being observed from somewhere far off.
He reasoned that once Rubeck and his Dragoons returned, the village would be about as secure as it could be. I was certainly looking forward to the prospect of moving onwards tomorrow morning, and I could see that the men, who had been resting in and around the square, taking staggered sips from their canteens, were similarly on edge.
About that time, just as the darkness was settling in, second company converged on our position. Pisano approached their captain, the two conversing about the mode of tomorrow’s attack. Just then, the air was pierced by the sound of distant shots. Farkas said that Rubeck must be seeing off the last Russians, and he started for the eastern boundary, the rest of us following in quick pursuit.
However, as we gained a view of the wooded hill, we saw no cavalrymen, but rather watched as a lone horse emerged from the tree-line and galloped towards us. Krupp took its reins as it trotted onto the road, and it let out an unsettling whinny as it was brought forward. The sergeant tried to calm it and Pisano caught onto the saddlebag, which, like the others, bore the Dragoons’ regimental symbol. The second company captain remarked that Rubeck was a fool for leading a cavalry charge into such a forested area, but Pisano was too distracted to agree.
‘There’s something wrong here,’ he said. More sporadic shots rang out as he made hurried decisions with the other captain. It was quickly decided that the reinforcing troops would secure the village from the north while our company combed the forest.
We marched towards the wood under the light of a signal flare which Pisano fired off as we advanced. There was absolute quiet in the ranks, and the only sound was the distant din of the steeple giving way, and the very sudden shots from the woods that marked the enemy’s final resistance. As we entered the forest, it was plain to see even in the dim light that it bore the hallmarks of a skirmish. Gashes from hurried shots marked a good number of tree trunks, rifles had been abandoned in the snow, and the whole place reeked of cordite.
I bade my section to be careful of the ridge-line, for that was where the enemy had the advantage. We were going uphill, and atop the summit lay a series of rocky outcrops, only distantly visible through the trees, which I reasoned must be an excellent vantage point, and which Rubeck’s cavalry must have been unfortunately deterred by. Quietly, Pisano ordered my section to cover the right flank. With that, we departed north, maintaining a view of the ridge, but removing ourselves from the sight of the rest of the company.
Pisano’s plan was to surround the central position, and then converge, hopefully dispersing the remaining Russians. By now, I believe, the captain presumed the Dragoons to have scattered into the woods, and that it was up to us to secure the position.
What had begun as a sparse forest had grown ever denser, and increasingly darker. I heard the noise of another flare being let off, and as the yellow light played upon the trees surrounding us, their spindly shadows gently undulated inwards. Another sharp explosion set me on edge. This one was close. We all crouched down, and cautiously fanned out. I was doing my best to keep us on the base of the hill, but it seemed that any way we went we were inevitably going upwards. The air was marked by a distinct stillness. No birds were sent rocketing upwards after the shot, the only sound was the muffled crunch of snow compacting under our boots.
Just as the flare began to die away, I caught a glimpse of a soldier amongst the trees. Not able to judge him friend or foe, I fumbled with my electric lamp, and once I’d got it working aimed it in his direction. In the yellow lamplight I quickly recognized the figure’s brown uniform, and while reaching for my pistol, called for Krupp, who was next to me. The old sergeant raised his rifle and discharged a round in the direction of the Russian.
The shot must have connected, for the soldier flew back with some force, though strangely enough he didn’t make a sound. I daren’t say it, Maria, but it was rather like he was being violently hoisted backwards. We all crouched amongst the trunks, afraid to go any farther forward. Silence descended again, and I scanned the trees with my lamp. As I was about to give the order to move off, someone let out a startling cry and we all turned back. Reidl exclaimed that Corporal Brecht was gone. I demanded to know what he meant, but he said that Brecht had disappeared, vanished. I yelled out for the corporal, but was greeted with silence.
I said that we must continue our way around the base, estimating that we should meet up with the captain soon. However, before I could finish, the woods erupted with noise. Every direction seemed to howl with gunfire, though I could see neither muzzle flash, nor damage dealt to the trees. Everyone leapt for cover, and I found myself with Reidl, the pair of us pinned by fear to a snow covered log. We each expended an occasional cartridge, but so intense was the enemy barrage that neither of us dared to move from cover. Hoping to extricate us from the situation, I called for Krupp to get the rest of the section moving up the hill. As soon as he went off, Reidl and I ran like hell, and we began our ascent.
Thankfully, another flare rocketed skywards, giving us some much needed light. However, just as we were illuminated, the gunfire completely ceased. There was no delayed lull, no sporadic continuation, just silence. Once again, the night air was filled with nothing more than the sound of our crunching steps, although by then it was clear that we were not alone.
Someone in the rear cried out, and we all looked back in time to see the poor fellow slip down the slope. He fell with such rapidity that it was as if he was being pulled. The terrain, I suppose, must have been very disadvantageous. By then, we were spooked enough, and our pace quickened as we all rushed as well we could up the incline. The trees around us danced in the light, and a wind must have been picking up, for they had begun to sway.
Soon we crested the ridge, where we found nothing but a large rock face covered in logs and debris cleared of snow. I surmised it was some logging site. We collapsed from exhaustion. The snow had taken it out of us, and we all formed a circle around the rocky perimeter. The flare had lit up the woods behind us, but all other sides were enveloped in darkness. Someone was blowing a whistle down the slope, and I realized it must have been either Rubeck or the Captain. Hurriedly, I bent below the ridgeline, and called out into the darkness. A minute passed, and I was greeted by the haggard figure of Captain Pisano emerging from the trees. His pistol dangled at his side, his whistle was jammed into his mouth, and his head was badly bloodied.
Krupp and I took hold of him and leant him against the rock. His face was stricken with terror, and he kept repeating the word ‘withdraw’. I asked him where the rest of the unit was, but he just shook his head. I took this as an order, and the remains of our drained and fearful company descended. We used the flare for guidance, but as it ebbed away so too did our remnant courage. From every swaying tree came the impression of movement. The air wasn’t still. It crept and moved and shrouded us in trepidation. The wind had picked up, and the branches creaked and groaned above. While I clutched the unsteady Captain, the yellow light diminished ever more. I hoped to God that it wasn’t the last one, and that that lonely glimmer would not subside into the night.
We were tumbling over the snow by then, slipping and falling forward down the slope. I had to keep my balance so Pisano wouldn’t trip, but in doing so bent too far forward and lost my spectacles in the snow. I am sure that we were all wondering where the enemy had gotten to. They were watching us, or at least they had been. I had sensed them. But why hadn’t they taken their opportunity to strike? It was as if they were toying with us. We had attacked thinking ourselves at a complete advantage, and now we ran like the devil was after us. Slowly, the last glimpse of light disappeared somewhere behind the hill, and I worried that soon we would be submerged in gloom. Between us there were three torches, and I threw Pisano’s to Reidl as I struggled to turn mine on. The electric lights sprang into action, and we silently surveyed our surroundings as if having been transported elsewhere.
Just then, a shot rang out, and then another. This was followed by a scattered increase, until it was clear we were under heavy fire. The beams jerked in all directions as we tried to get some sense of the Russian position. It was as if we were surrounded, but whichever way we looked there was only the empty forest. Cautiously, we stumbled forward. Private Holstein screamed behind me, and I swung around to find him gone. The poor fellow was nowhere to be seen, his tracks led nowhere. Someone fired into the woods, and suddenly the gunshots ceased.
‘There!’ shouted Reidl, and our torches turned in his direction. His face was frozen in abject horror as he pointed into the darkness. ‘I saw it move! There, look!’, he cried. I peered into the woods, the dim tree-line caught in our collective gaze. He was right. Something was moving, moving in the dark, but it was no Russian, I’m sure of that. The trees were swaying violently now, though I could still sense little of the storm.
In amongst them something long and pale was moving, dare I say running, between the trees. It reminded me of the way spiders walk, but so much faster. The thing had a head, or what could be called one, but I could mark no features on it with my blurred vision. The brevity of the moment belays any proper description, and I apologize for my lack thereof, but I do not wish to recall it. I will say that it most definitely had a mouth, however, as it opened, rather than emitting an animal howl or wail, it instead produced a gunshot. A terrible realization dawned on me, and I will swear by God’s grace that I was taken by the worst panic I’ve ever felt. There are no words to describe the feelings it impressed upon me. I can only say that it did not remotely seem a temporal being.
It seemed to turn towards us, and that filled our hearts with dread. At that we set off, all except for Reidl who was frozen in his place. Krupp shouted for him, and locked a round, aiming between the trees. Reidl’s stupor was broken by the shot, and he quickly retreated with the rest of us. Sergeant Krupp, however, stood his ground, turning back the bolt again. I was afraid of losing the Captain under his pressing weight, for my constitution was reasonably exhausted by then. We fled hurriedly, and I’m afraid that was the last I saw of the old man.
If our retreat had been unorganized before, it was now even more so. Our two lights barely emitted anything as we went, half running half slipping down the slope. I tried not to look too much ahead of me, and instead focused on the snow and made sure that neither me nor the Captain tripped. It was with unimaginable relief that we saw the next flare go up. This was soon dampened by what was illuminated. From the whole party of two or so dozen, there was now only Reidl, Pisano and myself.
Still, we soldiered on, hoping to break the tree-line soon. Pisano was incoherently whispering to me when something lit up behind us. We turned to see a great blaze coming from the outcrop. It became evident that the logs and litter left on the escarpment had been set alight by the flare. This bonfire shot up with such ferocity that it was as if it had been laden with kerosene. The flames quickly leapt to the treetops, and the sound of the crackling increased. The fire was spreading fast, and despite there being heavy snow on the ground, the trees must have been largely dry.
Spurned on by this new threat, we continued. A tree not far from us was rent apart from the heat, and came crashing down into the snow. This sent a large cloud of steam upwards, and the hissing noise was terrible to hear. Our backs were hot with the heat of the growing fire, which was nearly above us. Despite all our hurrying, it seemed we were getting nowhere. The Captain was tiring, and being nearly finished myself, I bade Reidl take him on his back. He set down his rifle, but as he did so, a bough fell between us. Through the heat, I saw something approaching him from behind, and with that, I abandoned him.
I hauled Pisano over me, and I began my mad dash. The fire was really going now, and the hissing had spread everywhere. I could barely move my legs, so cold were they through plodding in the snow, and neither could I see the light of the flare with the brightness of the flames. Still, on I went, paying no heed to the direction, only concentrating on the descent. Ahead of us, I saw the tree-line, and then the plain beyond. This rejuvenated me, and I said to the Captain through dwindling breaths that we were going to get out. We escaped the burning wood just as the blaze felled a tree behind us.
Distantly, I could see the church in Stamberg, still alight, and a perimeter of soldiers watching us. At their head was Farkas, the Hungarians, and a handful of men from the company. Their faces all were pale, and they kept their rifles close. I stumbled over, helped by none of them. I set the Captain limply down, and they asked me what had happened. I could not think, and so simply shook my head. I asked if Krupp or Reidl had gotten out, but only received the same reply.
We all withdrew to the village, where some stretcher bearers took Pisano away, and I turned back, searching the blazing woods for any sign of life. I could see nothing, except a brief sharp movement that caught my eye. Amongst the inferno, the silhouettes of two spindly trees toppled into each other, both trunks folding in half at once like the piston of a great machine. Thinking of it now, Maria, I am not really sure if they were trees.
I joined Farkas, who was at the base of the church looking upward. I followed his gaze, and saw that the Russians had escaped the steeple through a window, and the four of them were now huddled on the roof, all defenceless, for they had abandoned their arms. I say four, but there was a fifth at the other end of the roof, and it suddenly struck me that he was facing away from them, staring into the night.
The huddle moved farther and farther away from the flames. I turned for a moment as I heard someone yelling about a flanking attack, but as I looked away, I heard an ungodly cry of terror. I craned my head and brought my attention back to the unfortunate snipers.
I cannot properly describe what I saw, Maria, for it happened so quickly that I was left only with an impression of a moment. As the Russians gathered at the church’s far end, the soldier facing away from the others collapsed, and almost instantly, the man closest to him screamed as he was hauled up into the air by some great force. I watched shocked as he disappeared into the night, and although I had trouble seeing without my spectacles, I could tell that something was moving with him, some dark spindly shape, dark even against the night, and dreadfully large.
I do not exaggerate, Maria, when I say that it was the worst thing I have ever witnessed. Perhaps there is some great bat or hawk or other animal that is not yet known to science that whisks men away in the night, but I know that cannot be. Neither was the fellow blown off by a gale, for it would have taken a hurricane to lift him so far. What I cannot reconcile with any explanation I have concocted is that he completely vanished, simply taken away; I know not where.
I cannot forget that soldier’s face as he left the roof. It was one of infinite panic and alarm. I have seen him in my dreams, being lifted away by that monstrous force, taken to some dark realm of night, to some inescapable nightmare. I try not to think about it, and I believe this is why everyone else has done their best to put Stamberg out of memory.
In the morning we moved on, and continued moving until the offensive ground to a halt with the growing storms. Pisano was sent to the field hospital behind the lines, and I am now acting lieutenant. Rubeck’s Dragoons did not return, and as I heard it they were all reported as missing in action by Farkas. From our own company we lost sixty-seven men. I was the only one of my section left. I feel that I must be to blame for their loss. I could have done something. I could have gotten them out.
I pray God will forgive me. If only we could have passed through unhindered, if only we had left that damned place alone. My conscience is still not clear.
I must again apologize, dear Maria. I am sure you must think me quite mad, but I must set this incident to the page. Every word enclosed is as true a description as any I can render in my current state of mind to record that dreadful battle at Stamberg.
I remain, as always your dear and loving brother,
Friedrich
A final word—
This was the last piece of Holzer’s writing within the box. It seems that the letter never reached his sister, as I have not been able to find any response. However, I did find a letter from the War Ministry addressed to his mother dated exactly one week later. It said that he had been killed in action during the following offensive, and that his body could not be recovered.

Winter solstice: how to celebrate this day?

The time when your wishes can come true

https://preview.redd.it/ds4lhjfgw6161.jpg?width=790&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f1be38efd80c235fff0f8ed4d0bf50052a926fab
You and I are used to celebrating the beginning of the year on January 1, it is already a tradition. However, our ancestors knew and respected the laws of nature, which do not always coincide with calendar holidays. Therefore, they considered the day of winter solstice to be the most important event in the annual cycle. This is a special energy date, and it has been well said: "A good year beginning makes the whole year good”. Zhannabelle will help you figure out how to celebrate The Winter Solstice Day to make the whole year successful.

The day that can be a turning point in your destiny

The winter solstice marks the longest night, after which the day starts to better. This year, on December 21, the sun reaches its lowest position. In astrology, the sun passes from Sagittarius to Capricorn, and the astrological winter begins.
Our ancestors heralded the day of winter solstice with the collision of forces of Light and Darkness. As the forces of Light win the battle, this time symbolizes the rebirth, the emergence of hope and the joyful beginning of the journey to solar abundance. It is imbued with the most powerful energy to the extent that innermost and most incredible human dreams can become true, one can get rid of all unnecessary things, attract happiness and prosperity.
Just in this period it is important to follow the recommendations that Zhannabelle gives us. She urges to pay maximum attention to doing personal practices and rethinking one’s life path.

How should one prepare?

Do the house bottoming a few days before the holiday.
• Dispose of things in cabinets, storage rooms and under-the-ceiling storage bins, throw away the trash.
• Give the rest of the unnecessary things to the needy (orphanages or shelters).
• Wash the nooks and crannies in your home.
• Put all the things where they should be
Why do I need house bottoming? It will help you clear a place in your life for something new and good in the coming year. It may be a promotion at work or even new addition to your family. When you get rid of unnecessary things, you also throw away problems and failures from your life.

Additionally, Zhannabelle recommends doing any good thing before the Winter Solstice Day.
You can help a friend, become a volunteer, or even organize a charity event. The spirit of the Sun will certainly appreciate it and help you do good.
After that analyze your life and write down all your goals and dreams. By performing special rituals on this magical day, you can start the process of fulfilling your desires.
Determine what is really important for you, and what you want to get rid of. After that, start the rituals, in which the forces of light will help you.

Ritual to fulfill your dreams

Zhannabelle recommends cooking a special wish cake to make even the most seemingly impossible dreams come true on the Winter Solstice Day. It is better to cook it the day before, on December 20. If possible, bring your whole family together. Everyone should participate, including grandparents and children. Try to find a task for everyone.
Cook only in a joyful atmosphere, with a smile on your face, and imagine a happy future for your family. Enjoy the unity of your family, because when you are making a cake, you are not only making a gift to the spirit of the Sun, but also connecting the generations - the elder and younger. Let your cake be rouge, round, like the sun. Put as much positive energy as you can in your cake.
At dawn, December 21, start making wishes. To do this, stand up facing east, take the cake. Let the elder of the family hold it or put it before you. Mentally greet the spirit of the Sun. Say it out loud: "Accept this sacrifice as a token of respect and esteem for you, be gracious to us”.
Thank the Sun for all the good things that happened to you the previous year. Remember different moments, scroll through the events in your head again. Again feel those emotions that you felt then. Let every member of your family remember their pleasant memories and welcome the Sun too.
Now make a wish. Close your eyes and visualize your dream in detail. If this is a thing, for example, a beautiful new watch, then imagine that it is already on your wrist, you feel it, taking it all around. Well, if your goal is not a material thing, for example, promotion at work or recovery of your relative, then live this moment. Try to feel the emotions that you will have when the desired thing happens.
On Winter Solstice Day, it is best to make wishes that involve changes in life and the appearance of something positive in it. If you wish for the appearance of a pet or moving to a more comfortable apartment, the spirit of the Sun will be only glad to help you realize this dream.
Once it is done, cut out the middle part of the pie and put it on the most beautiful plate you can find at home. Make sure that this part is not eaten by any of your family members. You should put the plate with the middle part outside or on the window sill so that the birds and squirrels can help themselves. These forest guests are the helpers of the spirit of the Sun. They are the ones who will pass on your positive message to it.
If no one has ever touched the cake, it means that the spirit of the Sun did not accept your offering and will not help fulfilling your wish. In this case turn to Zhannabelle the mentor immediately. This behavior of birds and forest animals means that there is something wrong in your lineage, and you need to fix it. The main thing is not to worry, the seminars of the mentor will certainly help you!
Split the rest of the cake among all family members. Eat it as if you were a child: sincerely rejoicing, praising, smiling and perhaps even smacking with pleasure.

For everything to go well in the coming year, to lay the foundation for the Happy Year program, attend a special seminar dedicated to this day. During the next training sessions you will learn how to prepare for this day, you will be able to make an amulet for good luck and strengthen the defense of your lineage.

Amalia, Koper

"For the first time I came to Zhannabelle for help, and this meeting completely changed my life. At that time I was at the peak of despair: I did not have a boyfriend, although all my friends have long been married. I was afraid to stay completely alone, and because of constant depression I looked tired and aged beyond my years. Zhannabelle understood where the root of the problem lies already at the first consultation. It turned out that I fell under the negative influence of my own sister. Not realizing it, she sent evil thoughts and energy in my direction, which broke our relationship and destroyed my faith in myself. This made me and her unhappy, but once we went together like salt and pepper.
My mentor gave me a protective amulet and also told me about the approaching winter solstice. I learned that it was the best time for forgiveness and fulfillment of desires. Therefore, I was preparing especially for the holiday. I called my mother to make a wish cake together. Also, on Zhannabelle's advice, I invited my sister. While cooking, we had a heart-to-heart talk, and she admitted that she was very jealous of me. She was also afraid that I would forget about her if I started my own family. And she added: "We won't have any more sister parties over a cup of tea!” Her words touched me. I wasn't angry with her at all and I promised her that I would always be there for her.
The rest of the evening was in a very joyful atmosphere. My mother told stories from our childhood, we remembered the happy moments. At dawn, the three of us went out to the winter gazebo in front of our house, and made the most cherished wishes. I sincerely wished to find my love and be happily married.
Simply inconceivable events started happening in my life from this day on! My sister and I are best friends again. I blossomed and started looking younger, about five years younger. It’s been less than a month since I got acquainted with a man in the gym. I left my wallet at the reception, and he noticed in time and handed it to me, saying that in return he needs my phone number. Soon we started a relationship. He is ideal both externally and internally. There was not a single day he left me without his attention and care. And once during a date, he made a prank, which went into an offer to get married! We have been together for a year already, and every day with him is filled with real happiness!
The winter solstice is a truly magical day. It is able to fulfill even the most intimate and seemingly impossible desires. Zhannabelle will teach you how to make the most of this day for yourself and your family at her seminars.
It is important not only to study, but also to practice the knowledge gained in a circle of like-minded people. We invite you to join the company of happy, open and loving people in our classes and retreats!

2020.11.24 10:08 kurorinnomanga Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War: a lesson in how not to write a video game campaign

[caution again: spoilers for Black Ops Cold War, some minor spoilers for Black Ops 1 and 2]
[also this is extremely long]

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is a curious game. Not only is it one of the most content-stripped Call of Duties of the franchise's recent era, yet one which in my personal opinion is one of the most enjoyable ones to date, it also has one of the most politically minded campaigns of any game this year. It's a story about a secret history covering the late Cold War, an exciting romp to race to a nuke, one that has the potential to change history.
That campaign is also sheer garbage.
Despite being incredibly enjoyable, Cold War's campaign is a horrible mess of bad design decisions, bad story decisions, and far more. At times it is a fun, mindless run at a few interesting objectives, at other times it's the most boring take on evidence-substantiated investigation a video game has ever made. At times it's an intriguing political thriller about the Cold War, other times it's the most mind-numbingly terribly-written story Call of Duty has ever released. That duality is what makes Cold War's campaign both well-earned Call of Duty fun and an exercise in making you wish they had ever done anything with its mechanics, its themes, and its characters.
All that and more right... now.

Black Ops: Insert Conflict

Let's get the big things out of the way first. Generally, in broad strokes, the story of Cold War is a small, limited team of special operators whom are tasked with stopping Soviet agent Perseus, a larger-than-life rogue anti-Western operative whose central plan is to topple the World Order and prevent the Soviet Union from losing the Cold War.
To get to that end, players are thrust into a variety of colourful, diverse environments, as well as intriguing escapades and missions, with some element of traditional Black Ops choices, that build a narrative around stopping a nuclear threat to the West. You are two people, for most of the campaign. Alex Mason, Call of Duty darling from the original Black Ops; and 'Bell', you name them whatever you want, an operative of variable origin recently tasked to join the team. One exception comes, but we'll cover it later.
Black Ops: Cold War tries an... interesting mix of the structures of previous Call of Duty games. For starters, new optional missions fashioned off Black Ops 2-style Strike Force missions return to the series, while the presence of a strong main campaign persists, albeit broken up once every few missions by a trip to Die Landerbahn, a CIA safehouse on the outskirts of West Berlin. These missions, Operation Red Circus and Operation Chaos, help to affect the ending you get at the end, although they have no major impact during the game itself.
In fact, even with those optional missions, the campaign is incredibly short. I blasted through the entire thing on regular difficulty in about four hours; on realism, about six. Black Ops Cold War features far more stealth segments than previous Call of Duty titles - just off the top of my head, Desperate Measures, Echoes of a Cold War, Brick in the Wall and more have extensive stealth segments built into their beginning or mid-sections. Desperate Measures itself is a pinnacle of the game's spy themes, having you play a single time as KGB double agent Dimitri Belikov in an incredibly open-ended mission where you have four main options to achieve the same goal of getting a bunker key. It's incredibly fun and really well-made, and the options are just free enough that one genuinely feels like they've managed to figure out something cool with the entire matter.
Desperate Measures is also one of the big issues with the game. Not because it's got some hidden bad - not really, it accurately escalates the tension and gives players well-crafted pay-offs - but because it illustrates how god damned boring all the shooting in the game is.
For starters, enemy AI in Cold War is... bad. Not only do most enemies, even on Veteran or Realistic difficulty, fire in bursts enough for you to simply tank the shot and duck into cover, but the lack of accuracy one can experience while running around in open areas makes it even easier to approach missions. A good example is Red Light, Green Light, in which the main set-piece of the game, a Spetsnaz training course set in a mock-up of Anytown, U.S.A, is really open and offers mostly rudimentary cover along its main road. However, getting around that and the swarms of enemies is excessively easy, because enemies will often spend significant amounts of time behind cover rather than actually engaging you, allowing you to, instead of engaging swarms, engaging small groups at once, cutting them down fast and easily and subverting the entire difficulty altogether. It isn't helped by the presence of a slow-mo sniper focus that allows you to essentially freeze enemies to a degree where you can cut down entire groups of enemies all at once. That causes the main difficulty of the game to plummet. Exponentially.
The stealth sections, by contrast, are much more entertaining because even by default the stealth meter used by enemies goes up incredibly fast, which does actually encourage you to keep in cover. The pay-offs of silent kills, whether by hand or by pistol, are also much better than that of standard gunplay, because the game properly builds the excitement of taking out enemies without alerting others. But even the stealth sections don't really get more difficult when increasing difficulty. Playing on realism, enemy AI is always just dumb enough to give the player time to lockpick hard doors, or get away with extremely wacky behaviour, which, again, should not be occurring at harder stages!
The result is the campaign's overall difficulty never really raises. The swarm in Operation Chaos can be confronted the same way as a swarm in Echoes of a Cold War. The stealth of Desperate Measures can be achieved with the same ease as the stealth of Brick in the Wall - despite the fact that these missions all hold extremely different significance in the story and should have different difficulties related to their tension! That means, if you're not already invested in the story (and we will get to Cold War's trainwreck of a story), you will never feel invested in... anything. At all. Not to mention that also means the campaign's replay value is excessively low compared to other Call of Duty campaigns, because, again, you can't raise the difficulty to make it different, nor can you really make any decisions that would cause these missions to get harder.
And speaking of decisions...

Evidence is Dumb

Accompanying the optional Operations are investigations. Essentially, the game introduces to you the premise that you can go ahead with these missions, but if you don't crack the codes associated with these missions, then you might slip up and cause, for say, a Soviet spy ring in the U.S that previously nearly caused chemical attacks across the United States to persist. The missions themselves involve you eliminating high-value targets associated with Perseus. In theory, that sounds really interesting and makes for a very good feel, as well as creating more variables to care about in the game. In practice, the Operations are among the worst parts of the entire campaign.
For starters, to get the necessary evidence to crack these codes, you need to find small collectibles hidden all around missions. The fun easter egg collectibles from previous CoDs, like intel, have been excised in favour of this mechanic, likely in order to convince players to be more aware of their surroundings and to take in the environments more. However... using easter egg collectibles for critical game mechanics do run into a bit of a problem. A problem of a lot of the evidence being placed in the most unintuitive, terrible places you can imagine them being placed.
For example, to get the two evidence pieces from Red Light, Green Light, you need to take pictures of various maps hidden across the level. While three of these six maps are placed in intuitive places the player will come across, two are placed in weird out-of-the-way sections of the mission that are entirely unnecessary to pass through, and one is placed... right in the middle of a boss fight. Taking those pictures also disables your ability to respond to threats for at least a few seconds, which means that at the same time as you killing a stronger enemy, you also have to keep a look-out for... a fucking map.
Evidence collection is just the first part. It's not that infuriating compared to the other things, and honestly you could probably just bring up an online manual to check where the damn evidence is. The next part is evidence collation and analysis. That's right, you have to manually figure out what the evidence suggests. Honestly? These puzzles are actually pretty fun! Even though they're relatively simple, and can be solved with basic logic exercises, they're a decent tidbit in the campaign and the campaign could have genuinely benefited from having more of them, or having more of them be based on the player's actual proper analysis of the story and the situation. That could have made the story more engaging, and by proxy, more worth investing your time in.
The missions, by contrast, are terrible. Operation Chaos and Operation Red Circus are both really badly-made - hell, the latter is literally set on a multiplayer map - probably because unlike the main story, you do not learn anything from these missions. Not a single thing. You just swoop in, kill some people, and then leave. It isn't helped by the campaign's overly easy difficulty, it isn't helped by the lack of stealth, and it certainly isn't helped by just how... boring they are.
Yes, they are only two of the campaign's missions, optional missions at that, but when I say they are optional I mean they are fucking worthless. There is no value in finishing these missions. Finishing them does not escalate the game further, it does not make the game harder, it does not even really impact the story beyond some remarks you achieve at the very end of the game. The original Strike Force missions could cause a major story shift in the endgame of Black Ops 2, and while they also didn't have much in the way of gameplay consequences, they were at least fun breaks from the proper story and didn't completely break the immersion of the story by the virtue of being twenty-minute intrusions into an already short campaign.
And speaking of intrusions...

The Dumbest Cold War Story

Some theorise a story is only worth paying attention to if its characters are. I'm kind of in that camp, especially for video games; given that characters are among the forefront ways players end up interacting with the story.
The characters of BOCW are almost entirely flat, uninteresting, bland and worthless.
Let's start with the principal deuratoganist/antagonist, Russell Adler. Adler is your general American badass. He beats the shit out of enemies in front of you, can speak Russian, German, and somehow pass in front of Soviets while wearing the longest, most hippie hair anyone ever put in Moscow. Beyond passing remarks, Adler is really uninteresting. Lemme put him in contrast with Alex Mason from BO1.
In BO1, Mason is introduced also as a stereotype, a bland player character. He begins only really as a kind of exercise of the existence of the story but he quickly evolves fast. The story shows you his obsession with Viktor Reznov, displays his utter frustration with numbers, and finally, in an amazing twist, makes him the protagonist of the game in a desire for revenge. The story spends a good amount of time on building his motivations in missions and outside missions, which ultimately is one of the reasons why the character is so beloved today.
In BOCW, Adler is introduced as a stereotype and never really ascends beyond that. His motivations are never really explained and you have to just presume that it's him acting as a stringent American nationalist. His background is given a chance to be explained - albeit, optionally, in a side you can only really do if you actually have the patience to sit through the story already - but he just says ‘I was in with a bad crowd’. Everything about Adler exists solely to make him look more like a caricatured American Badass.
This writing basically extends to most of the main cast, with two exceptions. Belikov and Park seem to have had their writing done by people whom are way better at the job than anyone else, because their actions and attitudes expertly make much better-fleshed-out characters than the rest. Belikov is presented with a bit of a jovial side, very loose about his attitude, but also as a capable operative that reinforces his role in the story; helped along by being the player character in most of the stealth section in Desperate Measures, already an awesome mission where you do incredible things silently and deftly. Park is a conservative but confident person with a very reserved attitude to things, whom actively defies Adler when necessary and questions him where she desires, later revealed to be a deeper result of a deep paranoia and distrust. She’s also the only character in the game whose dialogue changes by gender in a way that extends beyond pronouns, which just makes her even a little more fleshed out.
Oh, and Belikov appears for two missions and the majority of Park's appearances are in inter-mission briefings at the safehouse.
...what?
That's right, the game's two best characters are also among the characters the game doesn't want to show or thinks are disposable. Great. That means that we're stuck with Adler, the comedy corpse of Alex Mason, the bad knockoff of Frank Woods, and your character. Great. The reason for those derogatory remarks against Mason and Woods is because not only were the original VAs replaced with new ones (despite wanting to continue) whom were then instantly told to make impressions of Mason and Woods, but their characters are pretty bad too. Not only do they suffer from the main problem with Adler, they also suffer from a generally poor performance to such an extreme degree.
When I first made my character and they gave choices based on race, gender, attitude and more, I assumed that it would play into how the characters reacted to you. After all, it is a campaign whose selling point is choice, and... nothing. Basically no changes at all, except for the Park dialogue I mentioned above.
Well, we probably have to talk about Bell.

Black Ops and Bad Politics

In my first playthrough of Black Ops: Cold War, I played as a nonbinary character just to see how the game would react. It didn't. It just changed most pronouns to 'they'. I think this is an accurate depiction of how Black Ops actually thinks about everything it talks about. So this is the true spoiler-full section.
During the campaign, you find out that the United States under Eisenhower planted multiple nuclear weapons under major European cities to be used in the event that the Soviet Union did indeed invade the West, under an operation known as Greenlight. The story never brings that up again, the fact that the U.S was responsible for creating a situation in which millions of people could die, and instead spends its time focusing on Perseus.
Perseus is not one person. It's a group of various different individuals which collectively form one great spy ring; this ring of people has been collectively manipulating events around the world for decades. It leaked various manifests from the Los Alamos Testing Facility, nearly caused real-life Operation Fracture Jaw to actually become a nuclear accident in Vietnam and more.
Because of the ending.
Let's step back a bit first. So, in reality, 'Bell' is a fabrication by Adler and Park, whom captured a Soviet agent in the first mission associated with Perseus in the hopes that they could gain necessary information. The player character has been lied to, but regardless, the game presents you with one choice. You can choose to lie to Adler about where the man behind Perseus is, goading the team into a trap and allowing the nukes to be detonated, killing about 60 million people in order to enable the Soviet Union to march across Europe. You can also choose to tell the truth, which results in an underwhelming chase sequence and a standard heroic victory in which Adler suddenly turns around and fucking kills you.
That basically means Black Ops: Cold War doesn't even succeed on its own merits. It proposes choices that don't materialise, because you only actually have one choice that has an actual effect on the story, either of which have zero justification beyond the placid nonsense that counts for a narrative. A great example is in Brick in the Wall, where you're given the choice to either kill or free an anti-Stasi resistance member in East Berlin whom in reality is an undercover KGB agent; no matter what you do, you're still knocked out by Franz Kraus and still brought to the same warehouse to have the same final battle.
This runs through the entire story until that terrible fucking choice. Again, those optional missions only affect random ending slides. They don't impact the themes of the story, and they most certainly don't affect your gameplay. Choose to be a woman or non-binary? Who cares, just get some pronoun changes in. Choose to kill Robert Aldrich and his spies or not? No effect. Choose to take Qasim Javadi hostage or throw him off a roof? Don't recall.
And it also reinforces Call of Duty's running streak of 'suggesting political themes and flubbing it'.
First, Perseus has never been proven to be real. Some researchers suggest that Perseus was a project of Soviet intelligence to create a larger-than-life threat; but whatever the case, there has never been definitive proof on Perseus' existence, and the theory's main proponents have often been American warhawks with obvious reasons for promoting a version of reality where the U.S is constantly under siege from the Soviet Union. I'm not saying that using Perseus as the main antagonist is a bad thing, but you have to actually flesh Perseus out well. Perseus is not fleshed out well. He's just a random rogue baddy who seems to be fashioned off Black Ops 2's Raul Menendez, but worse.
Second, Black Ops' version of reality is outright disastrous. In various cutscenes it repeatedly implies that the Civil Rights movement is actually a Soviet attempt to undermine the United States. In fact, Operation Chaos has you outright engage in an act of state terror against someone accused of being a subversive Soviet agent; or Red Circus, which has the team marking civilians under the accusation that they are Soviet agents. Again, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. But Black Ops has neither the will nor the ability to bother with creating the nuance to bring these controversial and morally ambiguous topics together. It's a four hour fun romp that dips its toes into one of the foundational conflicts of our time and then thrashes about hoping to displace the water.
That's not even saying Cold War is problematic, because it isn't. It's too stupid and messy to figure out whether it wants to portray things as problematic. The events specifically can be construed (and most are) horrifying acts of violence we would send men to tribunals for. But Cold War? It doesn't know whether anything is problematic. In fact, it probably doesn't know anything at all. The game has a message about the Cold War. It just hasn't bothered to figure it out. Is America bad? Maybe. Is the Soviet Union bad? Maybe. Is brainwashing people and robbing their identities bad? Maybe. This isn't even a case of 'let the player decide', this is a case of 'we don't know and we don't care'.
Cold War uses real conflicts, real events, and real places. It references real fears, real problems, and real people. But it doesn't care what it says about those real events and those real places. It's happy to taper over the complicated realities that even it wants to set up to give a pathetic, 'good ending', that, I have to remind you, is still less cathartic than the bad ending. If there is a message Cold War could ever have, it was probably lost in communication-
-or, Treyarch is going to insist to me that in fact it was a Soviet spy ring that muddled it up.

Conclusion

I am fucking exhausted with expecting better from games. You might consider that childish. I'm honestly inclined to agree with you.
Just thirteen years ago, Bioshock was released. It's one of the best politically-minded games of all time. Hell, Fallout: New Vegas was 2010, and Black Ops 2 was... 2012. It's depressing to remember how far Call of Duty has fallen, from flawed but well-intentioned and almost successful stories about war to this shit.
Players deserve better. They deserve a campaign that treats them with more intelligence than the idiotic narrative of 'nuke Europe or die', a game that respects the choices they have made with respect to the plot, and a story that... doesn't rely on their lowering of standards to be considered good.
That's why Black Ops: Cold War is depressing.
Because it isn't just bad. It's willingly mediocre. It's the bare minimum a player should desire of their game's story. It's a reflection of how gaming has gone from a series of communities to a cultish industrial complex that has neither respect for its developers nor its greatest enthusiasts.
This should be my last ever Call of Duty post on this sub. No point belabering the point forever, not when it doesn't seem like anything will ever change.

Thank you for your time.

(also side note: my last post on this subreddit was a terrible one I didn't spend enough time substantiating, and I also want to apologise to one of the commenters to which I promised a reply and never got around to.)

2020.11.24 00:25 globalwp [CONFLICT] Intercepting the Aircraft

m: due to the time frame between the Brazilian deployment announcement and the covert op, this was significantly delayed
The Brazilian Deployment to Algeria violates a long standing policy by the Algerian government to oppose the deployment of foreign bases into Algeria. Traumatized by the colonial era bases of France and the French Foreign legion, and the attrocities committed by the French government, the Algerian people have decided to never again accept foreigners basing in their lands... until today.
What is important to note is that Algeria is not a democratic nation. The nation claims to espouse Arab Socialism, yet it is evident that it supports neither Arab Unity nor Socialism. The nation which has historically supported the MPLA in their noble struggle against Portuguese colonialism has bowed down to neo-Portuguese colonialism and turned its back on the Arab people. The kleptocracy in power cares not for the Algerian people, their livelihoods, or their independence, but cares only for the personal enrichment of the elite at the expense of their people. A country which embezzles millions and costs hundreds of thousands of people their jobs, a government that is ripe with nepotism to the core, with a president's son that sells cocaine with impunity, and a government controlled by shadowy figures which subverts democracy and breeds poverty and ignorance.
The good people of Algeria do not deserve to have their rights trampled upon by foreign powers. They do not deserve to be treated as second class citizens in their own country. The United Arab Republic does not wish to integrate Algeria into its republic if the people are not willing, but the United Arab Republic is willing to fight for a truly free and independent Algeria. The Generals have betrayed the nation, and the people will rise. Brazil will not colonize Algeria!
Intercepting the Delivery
[Part that is happening either way]
The UAR upon hearing the deployment will deploy to prevent Brazilian troops from entering the territory following the news of the deployment. Troops along the border will prepare for an invasion if necessary. The air force will begin by establishing a no fly zone over Algeria for Brazilian Aircraft.
The UAR navy in the Western Mediterranean will prevent Brazilian ships from docking in Algeria. The main ports of Oran and Algiers will be monitored by air and sea, and will intercept and sink any Brazilian shipping entering the territory. Any Algerian aircraft deployed to intercept the UAR's forces will be shot down. The UAR's newest aircraft dates from the 1980s and is roughly comparably to the F-16. They would presumably be unable to lock onto the UAR's Delta Dart-IIs and would thus be easily grounded should they attempt to lock on. The Algerian air defense system will be spoofed by an Boeing E-3 to paint a picture of a clear sky should it be activated for whatever reason.
Moreover, the UAR's air defense network already deployed over Tunisia would be able to detect and knock out any retaliation from the Algerian air force, with the air defense system's range covering much of the populated portions of the Algerian heartland in the north.
The UAR's air defense network boasts powerful early warning radar that would presumably detect the Brazilian deployment. Integration and cooperation between Laurentian and UAR forces would presumably mean that early warning radar in West Africa and Morocco would be informed of the aircraft approaching, relaying this information to the UAR and allowing aircraft already in theater to deploy to intercept.
Elsewhere, the UAR's air defense will be placed on high alert and AEW&C aircraft will be mobilized in order to detect surprise attacks in the Maghreb. (guessing if they try attacking elsewhere for whatever reason I get to write more orders then)
m: Since I am not sure if the deployment is considered a done deal or if I can intercept it in the air, I created two sets of orders.
[If the equipment was fully delivered and bases set up for whatever reason (doesn't make sense but sometimes it do be like that)]
The airspace over Algeria will similarly be patrolled by 150 Delta Dart IIs and a small group of 2 Boeing E-3s which will launch AGM-201A Arrow packages at the S-400 and Siper Sam systems operated by Brazil at standoff range. The E-3s will spoof the early warning radar systems to present a picture of clear skies as the Delta Dart-IIs launch a combined salvo of 480 A2G missiles for SEAD purposes on the Brazilian SDAP-20 Mk2 and Siper Systems, with another 240 JASSM-XR missiles directly targeting Brazilian aircraft on the ground. The E-3 spoofing should buy enough time for the the aircraft to launch their initial payloads before Brazil is able to scramble its aircraft on the ground. F-16CJs will be utilized in tandem with the Delta Darts for EW purposes to help confuse air defenses and communications infrastructure as the Brazilians scramble to figure out what is going on.
The UAR's navy will also simultaneously launch cruise missile strikes with conventional Nuh and Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from the Western Mediterranean directly onto the bases in question. While the cruise missiles should be sufficient to eliminate Brazil's air defense systems and forces due to the Azanian precedent, in the worst case scenario they would be enough to distract the air defenses while the remaining A2G missiles decimate the bases in question.
Aïn Oussera Airport and Aguenar – Hadj Bey Akhamok Airport are legitimate targets for this operation and all Brazilian targets are to be eliminated.
[If the equipment was not set up allowing an interception]
The UAR will deploy Delta Dart IIs which are not trackable by the aging Algerian air defense systems. They will utilize their stealth features and quantum radar to identify incoming Cargo Transports over Morocco or Mali and will neutralize them before they are able to land. Firing at the cargo planes and stealth fighters at stand off range, the UAR will prevent the delivery of Brazilian systems and by extension the development of Brazilian bases. Patrols through pro-Laurentian territories may be used when possible to encircle the country and prevent engaging the Algerian air force to minimize their casualties. When it is not possible to intercept over Mali, Morocco, or the Mediterranean, the UAR will utilize the Delta Dart II's stealth features to intercept enemy aircraft within Algerian airspace without them knowing. If they intercept and pose a threat, then the pilots will have a green-light to defend themselves.
Similarly, the UAR's navy will target Brazilian shipping coming into Algeria with Brazilian ships delivering troops and equipment being sunk on sight. The larger UAR navy should dissuade the Algerian navy from interfering as it would only cause their ships to get damaged. If ships are to interfere, they too will be sunk by large missile salvos from the much larger Ticonderoga Class Cruisers and Arleigh Burke Missile Destroyers. Given that Brazil will have to cross the straits of Gibraltar if it wishes to deploy by sea, submarines camping in the area would be utilized to strike their shipping as it crosses the choke-point preventing a deployment.
The UAR's sizable deployment can deploy thousands of anti-ship missiles as well as boasts powerful anti-ballistic and anti-cruise missile capabilities that could by sheer number of missiles overcome the Brazilian navy sitting at port in Lisbon. The UAR's surveillance satellites will monitor the Lisbon port and track the Brazilian navy's movement. Should it fire munitions or maneuver within range of the UAR navy, it will be decimated by a barrage of cruise missiles and Air Launched AShMs launched by the Delta Darts. The UAR navy will remain within range of the fleet to prevent it from moving to positions where it may out-range the UAR. Nonetheless, the UAR's large amount of air launched cruise missiles, its ballistic missiles, as well as its large anti-air defense systems can be used to prevent this from occurring. Note that the UAR will not engage the navy unless it engages us, instead opting to maneuver to be in a position to threaten it should it attempt anything.
Message to the Algerian People
Utilizing the KJ-3000 for psychological operations as well as radio and media, the UAR will clarify that it does not seek to invade Algeria but seeks only to remove the Brazilian presence. It will state that the UAR believes only in democratic principles and does not seek to invade a neighboring Arab country or cause its people harm.
The message will stress that the UAR does not support the current regime's stance on Brazil, and that Brazil is a colonialist state no difference than France during the occupation. It will be made clear that no bases will be tolerated on Algerian territory, and that the UAR will fight for Arab independence, be it as part of the UAR or an independent Algeria.
Message to the Algerian Government
Should the Algerian Armed Forces engage our own, we will make it clear to them that the UAR does not seek to fight Algeria or does it wish to cost them their military equipment. The UAR is acting solely to prevent Brazil from encircling our nation and occupying Algeria the same way it occupied Angola. Should the Army stand down and refrain from assisting Brazil in anti-UAR operations, the UAR would not harm them or expensive Algerian weapons systems. The UAR does not wish to spill Arab blood.

2020.11.23 15:11 AutoModerator Weekly Q and A

[Discussion] Do you want to know something Funko related and Google is broken? Here's the thread for you. If you're looking for a resource, want to get info on where/how to do something or you have any general question, ask away and the community and/or the mod team will answer it!
Here is a link to the FAQ and Here is a link to the subreddits wiki!
When does X pop come out?
Short answer: no one really knows, with a few exceptions.
Longer answer: Funko generally does not use hard release dates. This means that they will say something like “Coming in May!” It may show up earlier or later than expected. Some companies, like GameStop, will have release dates in their systems, but those dates aren’t strict for the most part. Different GameStops will get shipments at different times.
Exceptions Funko products that are tied to a specific event (Conventions, Star Wars Celebration, etc.) will generally have a hard release date. Even then, your local store might not get them on that date, but it’s more likely that they will.
Check the subreddit for hauls and tracking to see when people are starting to be able to purchase things. In general, the West Coast tends to get things earlier than the middle of the country or the East Coast but YMMV.
Does anyone know/Has anyone heard...?
The answer to this question is yes. If that does not suffice then ask a better question. Also see the above for when pops release.
Is [item] a grail?
This is a personal question to you depending on how difficult the search is and how much you want an item.
Will [item] go up or down in value/be worth a lot?
This is impossible to answer. Nobody here can forcast what Funko will/won't do as far as new molds or re-releases or additional waves. Generally speaking things do one of two things; a) are "devalued to the point of barely being worth shipping costs or b) end up north of double retail.
Where do I find information about X/Y/Z thing
The best place to find out all information is /funkopop's pages and history. We compile from many different sources including official youtubes, twitters and the like. Outside that funko.com/blog is also a great resource. Remember that google is your friend and so is the Reddit search bar.
Where can I pre-order X item?
Every announced release has a pre-order thread. Use the search bar to find what you're looking for.
How much is X item worrth?
Visit poppriceguide.com and use their search bar to find out an approximation based on ebay sales.
Where do I sell my Funko items?
We recommend /funkoswap, our mod teams controlled trading sub. After that it's up to you when it comes the bag of eBay, Amazon, Poppriceguide, and Mercari. There are other options but we aren't recommending those at this time. We do not allow selling on /funkopop.
What does street-dated mean?
A street-dated product is a product that cannot, per a legally binding agreement between Funko and a retailer, be sold prior to a certain date. Do not ask retailers to break street date. There can be consequences for employees and the retailer.

2020.11.23 10:04 IseNina RC Team Weekly Feedback 11/17-11/23

Greetings! We are now celebrating Thanksgiving in the Palace. Remember to check out these timed events and claim your Thanksgiving gifts!
Here are the suggestions collected during 11/17/2020 ~ 11/23/2020 (UTC+08:00) and responses from The Royal Chaos Developers Team. We value every opinion and you are always welcome to speak up in RC-Suggestion on Discord.
----------
Rebekah Wilson 2020/11/17
Bonjour RC, me again. Thanks for responding to my suggestion. Just to reply to your response, I don’t think divisions determined by the number of actives is fair for some servers. 100 actives that are between 5m-8m won’t stand a chance against 100 10m. Why should servers like these be paired up?? Shuffling divisions are fair to all servers. Numbers mean nothin.
Also to respond ”I don’t think learning from each is a bad thing, is it”. OH YEAH IT IS. I never used the word ”learn”, I used the word ”to copy”. To learn is to see things from others and convert into forms that suit yourself. To copy is to exactly take what you see. That’s others’ knowledge and you’ll fail in NA schools due to a behaviour called plagiarism. Looking back to many NA servers especially after s100, many of them haven’t got lion yet, so why not make them a bit easier for them by shuffling divisions.
Queen Elizabeth II
South America Server
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hi Rebekah, we appreciate your follow-up on this topic. We have responded to suggestions about shuffling division a few times, and we still hold on to our answer, that we adjust Faction Division only according to the how long these servers have been released, and how many active players in each server.
To answer the second part of your suggestion, if you believe showing others how you make up a team should be hidden from others, there will be too many things that need this change.
----------
S97 风行者 Wabbit 2020/11/17
Dear RC,
I’m not sure if you’re oblivious or playing oblivious. Obviously merged servers has the best of the best fighters grouped together from all their respective servers. Their members are more or less consolidated and filtered to have the best players across all 2-3servers in one single faction.
Pairing a non-merged up with a merged server is putting the non-merged at a huge disadvantage.
50 active players with 8-10mio might has got no chance against 30 players with 13-20 mio might just for example.
Activity DOES NOT equate to strength.
Please in future be fair and pair all unmerged servers in a division.
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hello 风行者,thank you for your follow-up. We are afraid that’s hardly possible to happen, because you see, many servers have been merged, and we set & adjust Faction Division only according to the how long these servers have been released, and how many active players in each server.
If divisions are set like you suggest, “pair all unmerged servers in a division.” can you imagine what will happen?

[NA- S15] Chiiyo 2020/11/17
What’s up with the price system in this game. Why are y’all over charging for outfits and items??
The price system in this game has skyrocketed for no apparent reason since the beginning of the game. What was once a reasonable game to play with decent prices has now turned into a “We don’t care about our fans...just their money” game.
And yes y’all are trying but for each time y’all do ONE GOOD....
You all do seven bads.
The monthly log in is a good start to fixing things tho. Hopefully the next thing you all work in is prices for items and outfits because asking for $200 on up for outfits we can’t wear irl and item we can’t use irl is over kill. :broken_heart:
P.s: please fix the drop rates in travel for event travels! For goodness sakes 10% chance for a drop is horrible.
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hello Chiiyo, could you please explain this part “Hopefully the next thing you all work in is prices for items and outfits because asking for $200 on up for outfits we can’t wear irl and item we can’t use irl is over kill”, with details?
----------
[EU- S60] KaeXin 2020/11/17
My response:
Not like Team Arena but something of same sorts.
Like normal cross-server events you do some daily tasks to obtain some points and get the first chest. Possibly do somewhat same thing. Both confidantes have to do some tasks etc. like a normal cross-server event and doing these tasks gets you higher ranked. And you will share same prize.
Fx.
A and B are cps. They do their tasks, maybe top up idk and their ranking reaches 3rd cross-server. They both get the rewards for 3rd ranking.
IGN: KaeXin EU-S60
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hi KaeXin, thanks for explaining on this. What you are talking about is some event like the Magpie Festival cross-server event. We will see what we can do in our future new events developing.
----------
[EU- S60] KaeXin 2020/11/17
Can we get the event back where we use all our charm flowers
KaeXin EU-S60
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
That only appears during Valentine’s Day.

[NA- S247] Erzili 2020/11/17
Since our complaints about having hoarded awakens and other items seem to be falling on deaf ears, or at least, no one can be bothered enough to allow them for exchange in the exchange pavilion because they’re “free,” I’m going to make another suggestion for how to exchange them.
Perhaps make it an svip privilege that there is an exchange shop. In the exchange shop, allow people to exchange awaken gems, pills, array stones, breakthrough stones, and hero shards for things that are still useful to many, like soul stones and new items (e.g. the new heir puzzles and awaken orbs). At each level of svip, the exchange options can improve. For example, have chimera shards for exchange at svip3. Maybe introduce another svip pet, too, to make the rewards more meaningful.
As a corollary to this suggestion, because all of us have so much hoarded clothing crafting material, add embroidery outfits for lower and upper 1, for all levels of vip, and for all levels of svip. Please consider adding some embroidery outfits to mentorship, as well.
Basically, everyone is becoming very disheartened by all the accumulated items we have worked hard for that we simply cannot use anymore, either because there are no new outfits to craft or because the new system is too expensive with too few benefits to justify spending more money. People were willing to top up before when the rewards weren’t all redundant. Now the rewards all feel redundant, and us older players are bored.
NA-247, Erzili
LeiIn 2020/11/19
What do u mean by free material? If u like to mention it as free material then stop giving us these free material on top up events, on top up rewards, make it real free, can? Put your luxury items as top up rewards lah, even the 6 jades top up rewards, because although 6 jades is cheap, it's not considered free anymore, then put the new orb as 6 jades top up rewards, can? Don't give us upgrade pill or awaken stone or godly stone at top up rewards anymore because these are the material we said we have it exceeded then become useless on our inventory, u call it all free material? Can't exchange it out for your new luxury material, is it? Care to take out these all from top up rewards? Because if it's still on top up rewards, it's not free material anymore, RC... U need to update your dictionary....
As I am thankful u chose my suggestion as one of the weekly best suggestions, I started to question what this weekly best suggestion means... I didn't say u have to implement best suggestions to the game, but by choosing it as best suggestions, doesn't it mean at least u consider the suggestion? And see whether there's a possibility or a way to implement it into the game? Otherwise u choose based on what? The longest the suggestion, the better chance to be chosen? As long as it's long long paragraph or so big dream as if a wow wonderful imagination then will be chosen as best suggestion?
Regarding lion, alas I didn't keep record of all your response to the suggestions previously but if it's not a promise then pardon me for keeping my hope high as one day it will happen.. But the part u say as there will be adjustment on Knockout phase rewards, I do hope this time it's not an empty hope anymore... Or please correct me earlier if I again misunderstand it as a sure thing will happen.... But if I understand it correctly, I do hope the adjustment not only be made for victors rewards on each Knockout stage, but also for the losing faction rewards.... Thank you.
SEA S50
LeiIn
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
We are afraid both of you misunderstand what we meant. If an item can only be obtained by paying, then this item can be used, and they are used, as exchangeable item, eg. Fabled Shard Chest I, Dragon Grass, Gold Bean, Treasure Shard, etc.. However, upgrade Pills, Awaken Gems, Breakthrough Stones, Godly Gem, etc, all have their free ways to be obtained.
To Erzili, updating new costumes to Costume Shop in which you can purchase costume parts by Ingots is already on our plan, which was responded in our previous responses. But we do not plan to add costumes to Mentor Shop.

I think it’ll be beneficial if you guys do more proof reading before you put out something. To me, this conversation makes no sense. I’m sure everyone is grateful that this game is available in English, but it does seem like you are putting minimal care to the English content. Please review ALL of these and edit the responses so they make sense!
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hi, thank you very much for pointing this out for us. Our team will carefully review this and see what can be done to improve. We mentioned in our previous response that our team are doing translation review in every update piece by piece, because we still need to focus on new contents update every month, but please trust us that we are doing this.

Adding to what FangYiShao said, to really emphasize how useless it is for a lot of us to buy the items in pet island, on the highest difficulty I can join, (which is set to be the highest difficulty until you pass stage 9999), the might of the first enemy is 2.97 mil, whereas I’m starting at 13.48 mil. I’m literally a whole ten million stronger than the enemy already, what could I possibly need the might-boosting items for?? The might of the final “Easter egg” boss is only 5.11 mil, still not even half my starting might, let alone the might I’ve grown to with the items we have to take after clearing each boss, plus whatever else I collected in the non-battle encounters. (Note: I did not visit a single shop, all the items I have were gained from clicking through everything else to get to the bosses.)
I personally like the idea of having the pet coins convert to a new currency after we’ve completed Fun Island, which could then be used in a new Fun Island shop to exchange for useful rewards, or maybe even costumes or costume designs, similar to how bet coins convert to battle coins to be used in the bet shop, but if this is an idea that you’ve decided not to implement, would you at least be willing to unlock higher difficulties (that unlock before stage 9999) for Fun Island, with rewards that scale? (So, for example, if you get X amount of crystallized stone for completing the current highest difficulty, the next difficulty added would give maybe X+5, then the difficulty after that X+10.) Or, if you worry that changing how the stage groupings currently are will cause issues, either from a player’s gameplay standpoint, or from a developer’s implementation standpoint, could you possibly add a new island with an overall higher base difficulty that players can choose to challenge rather than the current “Lost Island”? For this, maybe the second island unlocks after defeating the “manipulator” for the first time, and from there the player can choose whether they want to challenge the original “Lost Island”, or if they want to challenge the new one with increased difficulty/rewards. I think that either of these options would be a welcome update to the current Pet Island feature and would allow for older and/or higher might players to 1.), have a bit more of a challenge again, and 2.) get rewards that are useful to where they are in game, rather than receiving the same rewards that players at half their level are receiving.

The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hi 蓝乄烟雨, thank you for submitting your suggestion. Your idea is great, unfortunately Pet Island is a gameplay we designed for collecting pet materials & equipment quench materials for free. Adding a new difficulty level or even a brand new island is possible, but we currently do not have plan to expand or add a new feature for pet. So right now we would like to keep your idea, but we can not guarantee that this will eventually happen in the game.

WEDDING LOTTERY
For wedding lottery, can you please make it so the numbers drawn are at least close to the amount of people who came on with invitations? Although this wedding lottery system was great when your game was populated, now its just dumb because every wedding Mu just takes the 1000 ingots (which i'm not sure why, he has enough money himself :Eyeroll:). Please try to adjust the numbers at least, not many go on for wedding anymore, and when there is one, the lottery is just bye bye bye for every number cause most of them be like 56 or something :cat_angry:. Last wedding I went to only had 11-12 guests so that says something :ShibiHmph: . Or make it so that when we get a number its not a number that correlates to when you went into the wedding event, like giving me number 1 because I was the first guest there. If the numbers can be randomized when they do lottery, it can be randomized when we enter the wedding. I want the wedding event to be fun for my friends/server mates who attend when it does happen :/ It's just a mood killer when Mu just be like "hAHa ThAnKs fOr uR geNerOusity! I wiLL bE taKinG tHe GraND PriZe!!" even though none of us want him there.

Costumes, Weapons, Decors, all have certain time for return in events. Adding a shop won’t change that.

Please let us buy the face, hair, and outfit separately. You can give a discount if we buy all three at once, but it’s not fair to make us pay full price if we have two of the three in a set. Sher28, NA-130
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
This situation only happens when the face is released for free. If the whole costume set is released for free, this costume will be updated to game, like the costume shop we mentioned, so that you can purchase parts by ingots. However, if a costume is released by paying way, you will have to obtain it as a whole.

Server merge
Hello, if your going to do a merge, then can you guys also think of the clan balance? some server has like 30 east and 5 west, it wouldn't be fair if there will be way more east then west on the next merge.. like 15 east and 3 west. That is like 45 east and 7 west? I aready seen a server with a similar ratio and it's not fair on the clan with less members.
So I hope there would be a clan balance when your thinking of merging us.
I used west as a example because west is normally the one with less members

Like Faction Battle division, server merge also puts server active players number and how long these servers have been released as first priority, then we consider clan balance.

Hi, RC, thanks for responding to the suggestion, but I am sorry I failed to understand as why how the whole array system working can be a reason of not considering agi soul stone for slot 4. The array system code was written by your IT team, I believe they have the ability to adjust it. If it is only be suggested by one or two players, then I can see why you don't have plan to add it, but as you may see from the suggestion response stickers, plus I noticed lots player asked for it on this channel previously, I don't understand why it can't change your mind and start to consider giving us agi for slot 4? While you give us atk agi for slot 1, do u really expect us to put our attacker on front line? Slot 1 is on front line leh.. Hp agi on slot 1 I can understand, but u give us atk agi on slot 1 while not plan to give us atk agi for slot 4? What kind of joke is this? Do u mind to explain more about your reason why not plan to do it while lots of your player suggested it?
Regarding the excess material, I believe you didn't get the reason why we asked for exchange event of this material to new material. You sell the events material on flash packs so that we no need top up to win events is a bit useless maneuver. We top up to win events = at least get the jades to spend again on something we need, but now u sell on packs with same price as the top up value = u take away the jades from us...
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hello LeiIn, thanks for your follow-up on this topic. Since Array Soul Stone adds attributes like ATK, HP, AGI, etc., these attributes are all carefully calculated and distributed on different parts, hero levels & upgrade & awaken, equipment, pets, array, wits, etc..It’s not that simple that we can directly add a soul stone for slot 4 with AGI attributes. In a word, we don’t think that’s necessary. If you have specific reason why you MUST have a AGI soul stone for slot 4, you may follow up and respond to us.

I’m very disappointed you guys promised working on clan switch for over a year and then quietly backed out of that idea without really letting us know. While I have said it in the past, I’ll repeat it again. Most other similar games do not restrict players this way. We should be allowed to move around whichever faction we wanted to and our alliance would be connected to that and not just west/east, which more often than not end up incredibly uneven. Even in our newly merged server Clan War was already 40 vs 20 last night and I don’t see it getting better. I hope at least with the possibility of moving servers you don’t tease us about it for a year before quietly dropping the idea again. - 蓝兔丶Mai - sNA221

[NA-S185] Leunan 2020/11/20
Problem: People are separated by arbitrary distinctions made in early game, choosing a clan based solely on NPC interaction in cut scenes.
Solution: Remove the clan tag from players and instead apply it to factions. Have faction leads declare allegiance to Empress or Nian and then mark the faction itself as East or West. Players can be free agents moving between clans and factions this way. And let's be honest RC, any server based "rivalry" tends to stem from the faction level and has nothing to do with clans at all. Let friends play together and be done with it.
If keeping things "balanced" for Clan War is the problem, maybe your team needs to look into adjusting that event so it's not restricting your player's gameplay.
Leunan [NA-S185]

The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hi Leunan , thank you for submitting your suggestion. We are considering making a new clan war event recently, just some ideas that may easy the unbalance of clans in some servers. Your idea is good by the way.

No matter how many times I think about it, I think it’ll be more fun if the faction battle heaven and earth guards are taken from the OPPOSING team. For example, faction A wants to buy some heaven guards. They’ll be able to purchase heaven guards that has the highest might from faction B, whom they will be facing. Same thing with the earth guards, the might of those will be taken from the average might of the opposing faction. This will make it more fun I think, and the guards you can buy will also be different depending on who you are facing. It makes no sense for a faction with three 20mil members to have even more of an advantage when they already have three 20mil members. Since you barely listened to us when we requested for a decision rotation, I think this would be a decent compromise for now. Also I would like to suggest to at least gift the runner up faction 1-5 lion shards, to encourage more factions to participate in faction battle. One of the most enticing rewards from this event is the lion shards afterall, I think it’s a good time to slowly add some shards to the runner up prize to encourage people to keep trying.
Soju 2020/11/21
Actually RC, I would like to oppose this. Compared to active factions on other servers, it is more difficult for my faction (which isn’t as active, but has a handful of high might players) to win faction battle, so I don’t think it’s a good idea to take might for the earth and shadow guards from the faction that you’re facing. On the other hand, I do think it would be nice to get some lion shards in the semi-finals or finals for the losing team.
On a separate note, I would like to suggest to remove the bot factions or have them hit less, as most of the bot factions do more damage to HUs than the player factions. This is sort of ridiculous, as there is no reason for the bot factions to be attacking 200/250 by alienation while player factions attack 75. Also, please keep the free stuff coming, it has motivated a lot of my friends to come back to play the game. Thanks!

Thanks for both of your making your points on this topic. The situation Soju mentioned is one of the reasons why we added Guard system to Faction Battle. In a word, Guard System is to provide more possibilities for ALL factions.

Aelaena 2020/11/20
Hi RC, I would like to suggest having a faction reward system where the leader can only access to distribute these rewards (Could be purchased via faction gold). This would encourage players to be more active and also help non-paying players to be able to get items they struggle to build. Example for Rewards can be Duality EQ shards, Flowers, Pet (Lion?) shards, higher lvl gems. Players can collect over time, synthesise and build their desired eq or items over time without needing to spend too much. This would also keep fac morale higher where members feel 'rewarded' for their contributions towards the faction and also give them incentive to contribute to their respective faction further. The higher the faction lvl, more rewards can be unlocked and distributed. You can set a weekly reward distribution limit a member can receive per week. This is just a general suggestion and I'm speaking from a younger server's perspective older servers might have better suggestions in regards to rewards. Kindly pls take into consideration of that. Thank you

[SEA-S120] MarielSpur 2020/11/20
Is it possible to have Lion pet shards from faction battle? Instead of never getting the chance to achieve 1st place, it may help other factions actually get some kind of reward. So maybe have like 5 shards per battle. I’m not suggesting shards as DEFEAT rewards, just maybe for making it to the next round. For example, winning t16 and making it to t8, the reward could include like 2 or 5 lion shards. This helps us to build a better system of pet formations without having to ‘win’ everything since not each faction will have the opportunity to get 1st.
MarielSpur - SEA-S120
The Royal Chaos Team’s Response:
Hello MarielSpur, we just responded to Aelaena abou this, we are considering adding faction rewards for faction battle knock-out stages. About Roaring Lion shards’ yield at Faction Battle, we may need some more time to think about it. In the mean time, you may find more ways, uniting other factions, for instance, to get bigger winning chance.

Hi RC,
Please give us Cross Server Helper for FB?
CROSS SERVER HELPER FOR FACTION BATTLE SUGGESTION:
STORYLINE:
After beating TOP 16, Top 8 and Top 4 Factions, the remaining 2 Factions arrive at the Grand Finals stage for a showdown. Both their armies are more or less injured, and this is the time where they would need foreign support.
MECHANICS:
  1. The 2 factions in the finals will be able to hire 2x Cross Server Helpers as FOREIGN GUARDS to assist in the finals.
  2. FOREIGN GUARDS recruitment will cost the faction 168,000K faction gold (16 Fortune Jades & 8 Night Pearls) for each FOREIGN GUARD hired.
  3. Leader of the Faction will be required to send FOREIGN GUARDS 18x Cross Server Flowers each in order to 'entice' the FOREIGN GUARDS to pledge allegiance to the Faction.
  4. Cross Server Helpers assisting as FOREIGN GUARDS are individual mercenaries and their service is not linked to whether their faction is in Top 16 or not.
  5. Cross Server Helpers can earn the same rewards as the Cross Server Faction that they assist / or they can earn other Cross-Server related items like Majestic Horns, CS Flowers plus perhaps some Glory Coins to exchange FB Costumes etc.
RATIONAL:
Since RC is an interactive game, we have also made Cross-Server friends, who more often than not play an integral part of the few reasons that we continue playing the game. Some players may have already lost interest in the game due to their own servers' drama and may find it pointless to play FB in a server that they feel they do not belong in. You don't have a server switch option now in RC, I believe having FOREIGN GUARDS could be a good start.

2020.11.22 04:49 ThrowRAHesitantgirl How can I (F29) stop being afraid of dating after 4 years of having left a bad relationship?

Long time lurker, first time posting.
4 years ago today, my ex and I (mutually at the time) broke up after 5 years of being together. It was, at first, an amicable breakup that resulted because my ex wanted to go poly and it was a hard "no" for me after years of being pressured (I realize in hindsight this was to basically EZ cheat without the guilty feelings).
For some background, my ex and I got together when we were 20. It was my first serious relationship and I made some really stupid mistakes and didn't see some obvious signs this relationship was headed for trouble, for one, not seeing the enormous red flag of being told "I love you" less than a month in the relationship and later on, following this person around the country while they got their various degrees while I decided to enter the workforce. It ultimately ended with my ex getting their PhD in the middle of nowhere (the cornfields/soybean area in the midwest; we were both east coasters), with me being isolated from my friends and family and earlier that year we broke up, my ex confessed to me something major that pretty much made me check out of the relationship and was the straw that broke the camel's back, sending me into a spiral of deep depression, as I was stupid and so in love with this person and made these decisions while not thinking of myself and wasting my time.
Anyway, after the relationship ended, I found out 8 months later my ex, who was now my roommate, was using the funds I primarily made to buy gifts for their s/os and to go out on expensive dates without telling me so I left to be with my family (who was desperately reaching out to me at the time; my ex desperately wanted me to cut off all contact with my family, which thankfully failed) and blocked them from everything.
After I left, it was like nonstop bouts of realization had hit me. This relationship was not ideal, in fact, my ex was verbally, emotionally, and later on, financially abusive to me and all of these realizations have made me terrified of ever being committed to another relationship ever again. My family, especially my mother, who I live with, keeps asking me when I'll start dating and find a husband, since I'm now the age where my mom met my dad. I don't know where to start and even though I'm normally attractive, I keep engaging in things that prevent me from being "attractive", such as not working out or eating and being sedentary and overweight. I know this is a defense mechanism, but I don't know how to stop. I think 4 years is a long time to go between relationships but in these 4 years, I've barely even tried dating, since the thought of being with someone who will lie to me and do the things my ex did weigh heavily upon me. My family says it's all in the past, but I can't let go.
Is there a way I can try to not be defensive and let my guard down? Is 4 years without even pursing a relationship too long?

2020.11.21 15:44 RadagastAiwendil The Wars of Durin's Folk: Why Dwarves Matter

When it comes to the history of the Elves, we have the entire Silmarillion. When it comes to the history of Men, we have all of the Lord of the Rings and its appendices. But when it comes to the history of the Dwarves, sources get a little sparse. Now this isn't to say that Dwarven history is a mystery, or that they didn't contribute significantly to the events of the Third Age, but in comparison to Elves, Men, and even Hobbits of Middle-earth, the Dwarves are to an extent, exempt from the Great Tales of the Fading Years. And there's an in-universe reason for this. The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit were of course first written by Bilbo and Frodo in the Red Book of Westmarch, and so if they didn't know something, it's not included. The Silmarillion is a little more complicated, but again, Tolkien tells us that is was compiled by a number of Elven (and at least one Mannish) chroniclers, and so it only includes information that its writers were privy to. There is no omniscient narrator. In fact Tolkien's fiction claims that all he did was translate the stories from Westron into English, (which begs the question, who taught Tolkien Westron?) Anyway, because much of Third Age Dwarven history takes place underground, far from the eyes and ears of Elves and Men, many of their Third Age stories are unknown to us. But not all of them.
So throughout most of the Third Age, dwarves fought orcs. In fact that sentence sums up a good chunk of all Dwarven history. And this was the way it had always been for countless generations. But, for six years in the Third Millennium, these generations of conflict erupted into an official and full-blown war between the two races. And I would argue that despite its lack of focus in the Great Tales, this War of the Dwarves and Orcs went on to affect the eventual fate of Middle-earth.
Now if you've seen The Hobbit movies, then this story won't be entirely new information. But there's a lot more to this conflict than The Hobbit movies show us, and there's a lot that they change. So without wanting to throw any shade at the movies, let's untangle the true nature of this legendary war between dwarves and orcs.
So when I said that this war lasted for six years, that was a little misleading. There were six years between the official declaration of war and the climactic battle, but the prelude to all this goes back to the very beginning of the Dwarven race, and I'd argue that it's aftermath extends all the way to the War of the Ring and the eventual defeat of Sauron. So perhaps we might consider that the War of the Dwarves and Orcs was just six years in a conflict that spans almost all of their history.
So if we're going to start right at the very beginning, I guess this whole thing begins way back before even the First Age, with the awakening of Durin the Deathless; AKA the first Dwarf ever. Now Durin the Deathless awoke in the mountain of Gundabad, which went on to become a revered and holy site amongst Dwarves for this very reason. And Durin also earned his epithet of the Deathless by living for at least 2395 years! Among his other claims to fame are that he was the founding father of the Longbeard clan, which accounts for every named Dwarf in the entire Legendarium, (except those Broadbeams and Firebeards of the Silmarillion), he was the founder of Khazad-dûm, and it was prophesied that Durin would be reincarnated seven times (whether literally or metaphorically is a matter of debate) before the Dwarven race eventually departs the world. So it's fair to say that Durin is a pretty legendary figure within Dwarven mythology. And as an extension of Durin's legacy, both Mount Gundabad and Khazad-dûm were revered places too.
So the reason this is significant is that by the time the War of the Dwarves and Orcs bubbled into existence, both Khazad-dûm and Mount Gundabad had been taken from the dwarves by their enemies. Thousands of years ago in the Second Age, Sauron ordered his orcs to conquer the holy mountain of Gundabad and turn it into an orc stronghold. Which they did. And 800 years before the start of the War, a balrog awoke in Khazad-dûm, killed King Durin VI, and Moria was swiftly abandoned. So just like the holy mountain of Gundabad, the revered city of Durin the Deathless also became an orc infested pit.
Now this was all obviously bad news for the Dwarves of Durin's folk, but things were destined to get a lot worse before they finally reached their breaking point. So without Khazad-dûm or Gundabad, the Longbeard Dwarves established new kingdoms in the North, chiefly the exiled Kingdom of the Grey Mountains (where many refugees of Moria fled to) and of course the Lonely Mountain of Erebor. And for a little while things were okay for the exiled dwarves of these realms. But then the dragons came.
So I guess one could argue that the War of the Dwarves and Orcs began right as the War of the Dwarves and Dragons came to a close. You see the Dragons were an absolutely devastating enemy for the Dwarves, and their war ended in absolute ruin. The Grey Mountains fell to the Cold-drakes of the North, and the king of the Grey Mountains was slain. Now this king had two surviving sons. The younger son was called Grór, and he established another exiled kingdom in the Iron Hills (which will be important towards the end), while the other brother was called Thrór and he took the Arkenstone and re-established the Kingdom of Erebor. And he's the old guy we meet at the beginning of The Hobbit movie. The grandfather of Thorin.
Now as I'm sure everyone will know, it wasn't long before Erebor faced a dragon of its own. And the dragon-fire of Smaug obliterated the Dwarven Kingdom under the Mountain. So twenty-three years before the official outbreak of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs, the Longbeards of Durin's line were once again made homeless, and those who didn't flee to the Iron Hills were forced to wander south as refugees, into the foreign lands of Dunland, (where Rohan's enemies the Wild Men of Dunland lived).
Now it's a bit of a tangent, but I think it's worth mentioning that despite the movies portraying Thorin as barely ageing throughout these flashbacks, he was only 24 when Smaug sacked Erebor, which by Dwarven standards is very very young. And I think this is significant to his character because by the time of the Hobbit, Thorin is 195 years old. So he'd spent 171 years as a refugee. He was a prince and a king without a kingdom. All he had of Erebor were childhood memories from a lifetime ago.
Anyway, this is where things begin to heat up. Because as you can probably imagine, King Thrór was not happy about the multiple losses of his ancestral homelands, and he began to sink into a deep depression. Which certainly wasn't helped by the last of the Dwarven Rings that he still wore. So three years before the official outbreak of war, Thrór left his people, his ring, and the key to Erebor in Dunland with his son Thráin, and he set off with only one companion on a pilgrimage to the Great Gates of Durin the Deathless; the original entrance to the city of Khazad-dûm
Now Thrór and his companion Nár did successfully make it all the way over the Misty Mountains, and eventually they arrived in the Dimril Dale. Before them was Lake Mirrormere where Durin the Deathless had beheld the vision that inspired him to found Khazad-dûm in the first place. And beside the water's edge was the ancient Durin's Stone, which marked the spot where the first dwarf had stood and received this vision. So I imagine that from Thrór's perspective this must have been a bit like the culmination of a holy pilgrimage. Being the king of the Longbeards, Thrór decreed that Khazad-dûm was his by right, and that he was its heir. And furthermore the Great Gates were open. Surely this was a sign that the time had come for the Longbeards to reclaim Khazad-dûm. At least that's how Thrór saw it. However his companion Nár was more cautious.
So Nár begged Thrór to be aware of the dangers, and not to enter Moria alone. But Thrór was a king, and he refused to live without a kingdom any longer. So he passed through the Great Gate alone. And Nár awaited his return from the outside.
But Thrór never did come back.
You see inside Moria dwelt the infamous orc Azog. And I'm afraid there aren't too many details given about Azog other than his name. We don't know his age or his purpose in Moria, but it's very possible that he was a chieftain of those orcs sent by Sauron to populate Moria 310 years earlier. However we do know that he was one of the most important orcs in the North, and we also know that as far as the orcs were concerned, he was the King of Moria.
So after an unknown number of days waiting outside for his king, Nár eventually beheld a harrowing sight. King Thrór's headless body was flung out of the Great Gates, and his severed head immediately followed. Upon inspection, Nár found that across Thrór's forehead was branded the word AZOG in Cirth runes, and a moment later he was struck by purse containing "few coins of little worth". The purse was thrown by Azog himself who allowed Nár to live simply so he could pass on the message to the rest of Durin's Folk. The implication of this macabre payment was clear. Azog would permit no future beggars to enter his kingdom, and he'd allow no others to declare themselves its king.
Now after thousands of years of ancestral conflict, this, the murder of King Thrór by the chieftain Azog, was the spark that eventually ignited the Dwarves and Orcs into a full-blown war.
You see when Thrór's son Thráin eventually learned from Nár what had happened to his father, he sat in silent contemplation for seven days, refusing to eat or to sleep. But, finally on the seventh day, Thráin arose from this throne and declared that "this cannot be borne!" And for the next three years, Thráin amassed what is probably the greatest Dwarven army ever assembled in Middle-earth's history. So Tolkien tells us that Thráin's host was "joined by great forces sent from the Houses of other Fathers, for this dishonour...filled them with wrath," and this is an interesting detail because it implies that not only was Thráin's Longbeard army bolstered by Broadbeams and Firebeards of the West, but also potentially by the super mysterious Dwarves of the East. And when the Dwarven host was fully mustered, the great War of the Dwarves and Orcs began.
Now despite the length of this post, I'm afraid there's not a huge amount to say about the specific battles in this war. It mostly happened underground after all, and so neither Elven nor Mannish chroniclers ever truly learned the details of what happened. But what we can infer is that the Dwarves began in the North, and they systematically worked their way south cleansing the Misty Mountains as they went. And it seems that the first site the Dwarves reclaimed, was the first one they'd lost.
So 4537 years after Mount Gundabad was first sacked and populated by Sauron's orcs in the Second Age, the Dwarves of King Thráin finally re-conquered the holy mountain, and the orcs inside were slaughtered. Over the next six years, the Dwarven army moved south through the misty mountains, winning battle after battle "through their strength, and their matchless weapons, and the fire of their anger," until they finally arrived in the Dimril Dale. The very same place where Durin the Deathless had begun the founding of Khazad-dûm, and where Thrór's severed head had been cast out by Azog. Now in the Khuzdul language of the Dwarves, the Dimril Dale is known as Azanulbizar, and this was the name that was given to the epic battle that was fought here.
So, the Battle of Azanulbizar is that same battle that we see briefly in the first Hobbit movie, although Tolkien's telling of it differs significantly from Peter Jackson's. I mean to be fair, it is in this battle that a young Thorin (he was 54 at the time) used an oak branch as his shield and took up the epithet Oakenshield, which the movie does get right, but as we know Thrór was already dead when this battle started, Thràin was blinded in one eye, and perhaps the most significant change is the fate of Azog. Obviously in the movie he gets his arm cut off by Thorin and lives to fight another day, but in Tolkien's writings, this is completely different. It's not even Thorin who Azog fights.
Now, remember earlier when I mentioned Thrór's brother Grór founding a kingdom in the Iron Hills after the War of the Dwarves and Dragons, and I said these Dwarves would be important? Well it's in this battle that we see why. So, Grór has a grandson called Dáin Ironfoot, and Dáin is possibly my number one favourite dwarf in the entire Legendarium. He is utterly badass.
So Dáin Ironfoot, alongside his father Náin and the rest of the Dwarves from the Iron Hills, fought at Azanulbizar, and just like his cousin Thorin, Dáin achieved massive fame and acclaim in this battle. Now the Dwarves of the Iron Hills arrived late, and before they showed up it looked like the orcs might be victorious, but when they did finally arrive, they brought with them fresh reinforcements that turned the tide of battle. In fact Dáin's father Náin even fought his way all the way up to the Great Gate of Moria and demanded that Azog come out to fight him.
Now we're told that before this point in the battle, Azog hadn't yet emerged from Moria to risk his own life. But when Náin challenged him, he perceived that the time had come. So Azog emerged from the darkness, and he fought a one on one duel with Náin. Now Náin was a great warrior, and we can presume that he was a veteran of many battles, but when he faced Azog he was half blinded by rage. We're told that Náin swung at Azog with all his might, but the orc was nimble, and when Náin missed, Azog broke his neck. The King's cousin died instantly.
However despite Azog's personal victory, his orc army was routed and his guards were dead. So, like a coward, Azog turned towards the gate and tried to flee back inside Moria. But this didn't turn out the way he'd hoped. Dáin Ironfoot had just watched his father die at Azog's hand, and he had no intention of letting the orc escape to fight another day. So Dáin charged at Azog, and outside the gates of Moria he hewed the orc's head from his shoulders with his red axe. Now what's particularly nuts about all this is that Dáin Ironfoot was only 32 at the time. That may not sound especially young, but by Dwarven standards it really was. For comparison's sake, we're told that during the events of the Hobbit, Gimli the dwarf was too young to take part in the Quest of Erebor, being 15 years younger than their youngest member Kili. But Gimli was 62 when that happened. He was almost double the age of Dáin Ironfoot when Dáin killed Azog. Which makes Dáin an amazingly awesome young dwarf!
Anyway, after the Battle of Azanulbizar and the death of Azog, the War of the Dwarves and Orcs was declared over. Azog's severed head was impaled on a spike, and the same purse containing "few coins of little worth" was stuffed into his mouth. King Thrór was finally avenged. But the victory had come at a high cost. Although we're told that ten thousand orcs had been killed in the battle, the Dwarven dead were "beyond the count of grief." And although King Thráin sought to press his advantage and reclaim Moria once and for all, he was dissuaded by his nephew Dáin. You see while killing Azog, Dáin alone had looked into Moria, and he'd seen the shadow of Durin's Bane. In fact Dáin prophesied to the king that "some other power than ours must come before Durin's Folk walk again in Moria."
Now, on the one hand it would seem that this marks the end of the War of the Dwarves and Orcs. However I would argue that although Azog's death begins a 142 year ceasefire, the conflict was not yet truly over. Because of course Azog is the only orc in the Legendarium who we're explicitly told has a son. And this son is another orc chieftain called Bolg. And Bolg would meet both Thorin and Dáin again before the very end.
So if we skip forward a century and a half from the Battle of Azanulbizar, Thráin's son Thorin Oakenshield will lead his Company to reclaim his grandfather's kingdom of Erebor from Smaug the dragon. Now this is pretty much the plot of the Hobbit, but of course once Erebor is reclaimed and the dragon is dead, there's one more battle that needs to be fought. And in the Battle of the Five Armies, Thorin and Bolg lead their respective forces once again to war. And once again, Dáin Ironfoot is there. And once again, Dáin Ironfoot watches a family member die in battle.
So with the eventual deaths of Thorin, Fili, and Kili, the line of Thrór is finally wiped out. But with the death of Bolg, so too is the line of Azog wiped out. And it would appear that with this, the war of the Dwarves and Orcs is finally ended.
But I would argue that there's one last epilogue, which brings this war full circle. Because to be honest upon reflection, this doesn't seem like a particularly happy ending. I mean Erebor once again belongs to the dwarves, and Dáin Ironfoot has taken his cousin's place as king, but Moria is still an orc stronghold, and at some point between the Battle of Azanulbizar and the Hobbit, orcs once again reclaim the holy mountain of Gundabad. The Dwarves may have won a pyrrhic victory, but it came at a heavy cost. And there's one more victory that needs to be won. And one more heavy price that needs to be paid.
You see in the year 3019, only two days after the famous Battle of Pelennor Fields, Erebor once again came under attack. However this time it wasn't a vengeful faction of Misty Mountain orcs, or a fire-breathing dragon that declared war on the Dwarves. It was an army of Sauron's Easterlings. And for King Dáin Ironfoot (who was now 252 years old), this would be the last time that he rode out to war.
So alongside the Men of Dale, the Dwarves of Erebor fought one more great battle, and they died for one more pyrrhic victory. You see, King Dáin was joined upon the battlefield by King Brand of Dale; the grandson of Bard the Bowman, and for three days they fought together against the servants of Sauron. However by the third day, the Easterlings were gaining the upper hand, and the union of Dwarves and Men were forced to retreat towards the doors of Erebor. There Brand and Dáin fought valiantly, but in the end King Brand was slain. The Dwarves and the Men of Dale retreated into the mountain where they were besieged. But Dáin did not retreat with them. Just as his nephews Fili and Kili had died defending Thorin's body 77 years earlier, Dáin stayed to protect the body of his fellow king Brand. And outside the doors of his kingdom, he too was slain.
But it was not in vain. After eight days of battle, something incredible happened. Thousands of miles away from Erebor, all the way in the South, the One Ring was ultimately destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. Sauron was finally defeated. Now it took another two days for the Easterlings to eventually be driven off, but in the end, King Brand's son, Bard II, along with King Dáin's son, Thorin III, led their people out of Erebor, and they expelled the Easterlings from Dale for good.
Now the Battle of Dale may at first seem like little more than a footnote when compared to the much more famous Battle of Pelennor Fields, but it should't be disregarded as such. Gandalf himself actually states "when you think of the great Battle of the Pelennor, do not forget the battles in Dale and the valour of Durin's Folk." We're told that if Dáin and Brand had failed to hold back the Easterlings in the North, then the scales would have tipped in Mordor's favour. The servants of Sauron would have joined with his forces at Dol Guldur, and regardless of the victory at Pelennor Fields, the armies of the West would have been overrun and crushed. Gandalf would have been unable to draw out Sauron's army at the Black Gate, and so it's doubtful that Frodo and Sam would have made it Mount Doom.
I feel like it's very easy to think of Dwarven history as being separate from the histories of Elves and Men. After all, for most of the Second and Third Ages they dwelt underground and kept out of the proverbial spotlight. There is no Dwarven equivalent of the Silmarillion, and most of the details of Dwarven lives are lost to us. But in spite of that, I don't think that Dwarven history is separate at all. If not for the Dwarves of Durin's Folk, it's highly likely that Sauron would have won. And Middle-earth would have fallen into darkness. If not for Durin's Folk "there would be no Queen in Gondor", there would be only "ruin and ash." But over the centuries tens of thousands of Dwarves laid down their lives because they believed that orcs could not win. They believed that there was something good beneath the mountains and it was theirs. And in the end, their sacrifice paid off. At some unknown date in the Fourth Age, Durin the Deathless was reincarnated for the seventh and final time. Under his kingship the Dwarves reclaimed Khazad-dûm, and they prospered in their kingdoms beneath the earth, until the "world grew old and the days of Durin's race ended."
So, thank you all very much for reading this, I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments on the race of Dwarves. As some of you may know, I've been working on a series of YouTube videos about Tolkien's Legendarium. The series is called Tolkien Untangled, and there are plenty of video essays like this one as well as videos explaining the Silmarillion, and the differences between the Lord of the Rings books and movies. So check out Tolkien Untangled on YouTube if you'd like to learn more.
Thanks again everyone. Much love and stay groovy ❤️

2020.11.20 22:54 kelseyniamh_ Stranger Things 4 Plot Rewrite

hi! so my friends and i have worked on this for the past evening and i wanted to share with all of you to see your thoughts! we’re writing 8 chapters for the 8 episodes and we’re publishing them to Archive Of Our Own to see how much we get right when the season officially airs!!! i’d Love to hear your thoughts !!

Hawkins Psych Ward, 1986
The opening scene is set in the derelict hallways of the Serenity Grove Psychiatric Hospital of Hawkins, Indiana. The lights are flickering. The halls are grey and boring. Dull and uninspired. The camera pans slowly down the hallway towards what seems to be the main office. There are opened files left on the desk. Photos of Victor Creel, the newest inmate, are attached to the files.
The camera follows the familiar and eager footsteps of a man as he paces through the winding corridors. He’s looking for something. Or someone.
Through the small glass windows of each cell, we see glimpses of the various treatments and torture the inmates of Serenity Grove face. They are being treated like prisoners: metal beds with thin mattresses, a small sink in each room and a barred window. We first see a man screaming to himself in his room, the woman next door cradling herself on her bed, the woman in the room opposite her punches the door and is trying to say something, but her words aren’t recognisable. The lights slowly become more intense, almost strobe-like as the footsteps begin to break into a high-speed sprint. An alarm sounds, slowly becoming more and more consuming. Chatter and confusion is heard. A dangerous individual has broken out of the hospital, or have they broken in?
The camera follows the staff of the hospital back into the office, where they are urgently trying to phone the nearby authorities, such as the Hawkins Police, but the phone keeps going to a dead line. The wardens of the hospital chatter indistinctly. We get a close up of Peter Ballard, the newest recruit on the ward, he looks scared, exhausted and fed up with the job he’s in, despite only being there for a couple of months. The wardens are beginning to panic. They hear something from the nearest entrance. As they look towards the door, it swings open for the owner of the Hospital to enter: the chillingly familiar character of Dr. Martin Brenner.
THE STRANGER THINGS OPENING SEQUENCE PLAYS
California, 1986
El wakes up to the smell of eggs and bacon being cooked by Joyce. For a split second, she forgets where she is and thinks it’s Hopper cooking the eggs and she smiled, and then reality hit. Hop is gone. Hop isn’t coming back. She sighs, and hauls herself out of bed, pulling on some denim shorts and a shirt of hops, white tube socks and her high top converse.
El follows the smell wafting through the kitchen, and takes her seat next to Will. She smiled softly at Jonathan sat opposite her whilst Joyce plates up the eggs and bacon.
‘So, El, have you heard anything from Mike recently?’ Jonathan asked, taking a sip of his orange juice.
‘No. Hasn’t called.’
‘I’m sure he will, sweetie, don’t fret.’ Joyce said, as she sat down in her seat next to Jonathan. ‘What about you, Will? Heard anything from Dustin, or Lucas?’
‘No. They probably don’t even care that we’ve gone.’ Will scoffed before pushing back his breakfast plate. ‘I’m going to school.’ and with that said, Will swept out of the room, slamming the front door as he left.
‘Hurting. Misses everyone.’ El stated.
‘I know.’ Joyce sighed, picking up Will’s plate and putting it in the sink. ‘Jonathan? Would you mind taking El to school today?’
‘Already planned on it, Mom, we’ll get Will halfway down the road.’ Jonathan smiled and shook his keys at El who giggled and went to grab her bag. They kissed Joyce goodbye and left for school.
Hawkins, 1986
‘Robin. Robin. Robin. Robin. Robin. Robin.’
‘What, Steve?’
‘I’m literally so bored, can’t we do something fun?’
‘Steve, we’re at work. There’s nothing fun we can do.’
‘That’s what we thought last year but then-’
‘ Then your crazy child friend came to us with a stupid Russian experiment that almost got us killed , Steve.’
‘Well, I mean, I wouldn't be that dramatic about it.’ Steve scoffed and Robin threw a crumpled up receipt at him. They heard the door jingle as it opened which meant, yay, a customer, and they both put their work faces on before realising who had actually come through the door.
‘Henderson! Aren't you supposed to be in school?’ Robin asked.
‘Yeah but, it’s weird. Without Will and El, it’s like, the party doesn’t have anything in common anymore. We’re not risking our lives every waking moment to keep El a secret, Will isn’t here to worry about if the mind-flayer is coming back or not. It’s weird.’ Dustin sighed, picking at his nails.
‘Dustin you can’t hang out here, we have actual work to do and we can’t sneak you in the back or Keith will have both of our asses, I’m sorry, kid.’ Steve apologised, really feeling for his little pal. The doorbell chimed again as Max Mayfield entered the store.
‘Dustin! I’ve been looking everywhere for you!’
‘I’m not in the mood, Max.’
‘Come on, i’m not kidding. We have to go to school. Mike is sneaking into Hawkins Middle to steal the Heathkit from the AV club, he needs it to contact El and Will. His radio isn't strong enough. He needs us as a distraction.’
‘Fine. but only because I may get to see Mr Clarke again.’ Dustin allowed the redhead to convince him of skipping classes, and smiled softly at Steve and Robin. ‘See me later? We’ll all probably be at Mike’s to contact El, Nancy will probably be there to speak to Jonathan too, so you’ll be more than welcome.’
‘We’ll be there, Henderson. Now go!’ Robin chuckled.
Dustin and Max leave the store, jumping on their bikes to quickly hurry to Hawkins Middle before mike gets himself into some sort of trouble.
Lucas meets them halfway, shooting Max a quick blown kiss whilst Dustin gags lightheartedly. They pull into the all too familiar middle school to see Mike conversing with Mr Clark.
‘Sir, please, I just need to borrow it.’
‘Mike, it’s school property. Property of a school you don’t even attend anymore.’
Mike pinched the bridge of his nose, ‘But it’s to contact Will!’
‘Use a phone, like any other normal kid would do.’
Dustin decided now would be the best time to cause the “distraction” and approached Mr Clark himself.
‘My lord, I must say how nice it is to see you on this fine day.’
‘Are none of you in class? What are you doing? You can't just be skipping out on high-school to come talk to your old teacher!’ Mr Clark sounded exasperated.
‘Yes but, my lord, do you know how expensive it is to make calls out of state? We’re 15, we don’t have jobs, we can't afford that type of money.’
‘You have a point, go on.’
‘And we can’t all rely on my cerebro, it's coming up winter now, we’ll get sick. You don’t want us to get sick, do you, Mr Clark?’
Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Max and Lucas coming out of the AV club room, struggling carrying the huge machine, and Dustin babbles to keep Mr Clark talking before he notices.
“Mr Clark, I understand you’re going to say no, but if we could just maybe have the keys for the AV club room and we can come and use it during our free periods, after school until all the teachers decide it's time to go home?’
‘You’ve bent my arm, Dustin. Keys only. Now run along.’ Mr Clark smiled, handing Dustin the keys before turning and walking away, in the opposite direction of where Mike, Max and Lucas are carrying the radio out of the side door.
‘Dustin!’ Mike yells.
‘What!’
‘Cycle to Steve, we need a car.’
Dustin grunted and sped all the way back to Steve where he saw Steve smiling at a young girl in a neon blue jacket. Dustin waited before he went in, so that he didn’t cramp Steve’s “style”, and once she left, he ran inside.
‘Steve.’
‘Dustin, I’m about to take my break can’t it wait?’
‘Nope, need you and your car right now. Come on let's go!’ Steve sighed before pulling on his jacket because he knew he didn't have a choice.
‘Where are we going exactly?’
‘Hawkins Middle, and then Mike’s.’
‘Got it. You know, you need to pay me if you keep wanting me to waste my gas on you and your little friends being ferried around.’
‘Shut up, Steve, we’re your only friends.’ Dustin smirked as he knew he caught Steve in a way he can’t argue back.
Steve and Dustin pull into the Hawkins Middle car park where Mike is standing there with his signature “Mike Wheeler” face, ‘What took you so long?’
‘Look I’m here on my break, you little shit. Stick the thing in the trunk and stop being an ungrateful brat.’
‘You couldn’t have picked a different day to be in a bad mood, Steve?’ Max chided.
‘Oh, I’m sorry, do you wanna be walking your asses back to the Wheelers? Didn’t think so. Get. In.’
They drive in silence, Steve muttering about how he’s still somehow a babysitter for high-schoolers, before he pulls into the Wheeler’s driveway. He stays seated as they all get out but they look at him expectedly.
‘What, you can’t lift that thing yourself? Jesus christ.’ Steve knows he shouldn’t be taking his mood out on the kids, but he can’t help it. Every time he sees Dustin, he’s reminded of that Russian guard practically beating him to death. The only person who can help him through his trauma is Robin, except she’s been through the exact same thing. They both panic when the door opens and they hear the chime, they both panic when one of them shows up a little late to work, it's a work in progress, but they're dealing with it, Steve just hates leaving Robin on her own.
‘Steve, please help us.’ Lucas asked and Steve sighs, before undoing his seatbelt and helping them haul the radio out of the trunk.
He grabs the radio along with Lucas and the rest of the party guide them around the back of the house and down the slope to the bottom door of Mike’s basement. Mike unlocks the door and they all walk in, setting the radio down on the table where their D&D game box sits untouched and growing dusty.
‘What frequency do you think they’ll be on?’ Max asked.
‘Well, I told El 24.624 so I’m assuming her walkie will still be on that.’
‘Won’t the kid be in school?’ Steve asked.
‘Shouldn’t you be at work?’ Mike sneered.
‘Shit. Shit, shit, shit. Wheeler, you got anything I can grab to eat?’
‘Check the pantry, we’ve got chips, eggos, pretty sure there’s a sub sandwich in the fridge my dad forgot to take to work today. Take what you want, in repayment for helping.’
‘Thanks, Wheeler. I’ll see you shitbirds tonight, yeah? After 6?’
‘Go!’ and with that, Steve sprinted up the stairs into the kitchen to grab whatever food he could find for him and Robin to share, and jumped into his car. He sped back to the video store only to see Robin giggling and twirling her hair whilst talking to a girl with yellow sunglasses on. “You go, Robin,” he thought to himself, deciding to take the back way in and wait until the girl was gone before reentering the counter. He didn’t want to steal Robin’s chance at happiness, after all, she deserved it.
When Steve did finally decide to enter, Robin was leaning against the desk, sighing with a smile on her face. Steve was about to ask, but Robin opened her mouth first.
‘Her name was Kali, she had the coolest accent and she just seemed so.. Not from around here, you know? She was so pretty, and she just seemed so different, not like anyone I’ve ever met. Except El, she was a little strange, like El, but a cool strange. Like, she had something about her, you know?’ Steve nodded, and handed Robin a packet of chips.
‘I thought I’d panic, with you gone instead of being in the back on your break, i really thought I’d panic, but then she came in and everything was just.. So, much, calmer. She brought a sense of calm.’
‘What did you talk about?’
‘Literally just normal stuff, Steve, it was so nice to have a normal conversation without El or mind flayer or Russian’s coming up as a topic. Normal. It felt so, so good.’ Robin smiled, popping open the bag of chips, sitting back on the chair behind the counter and looking up at Steve.
California, 1986
Joyce stares blankly at the kitchen wall as she takes another sip of her now-cold coffee. The clock ticks quietly in the background as she finishes the last of her drink and the quiet hum of the radio plays ‘Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go’ by Wham as she contemplates. She snaps out of her daze and begins to make herself busy around the house in the couple of hours she has free before her shift starts at her new office job.
She notices that El had left her jacket on the sofa. Joyce moves slowly across the room as she goes to pick it up. The jacket that used to belong to Hopper. She stands for a little while, wondering whether holding it close will heal or hurt her more. She considers for a moment if things would’ve been different if she had gone on the date with him the year before, instead of standing him up for.. Magnets.
‘Stupid fucking magnets.’ She sighs to herself. Joyce picks up the jacket quickly, and hangs it up on the coat rail by the door. She notices a photograph Jonathan had taken when they first moved, which was now framed on the shelf, of Eleven and Will smiling as they unpack the first box in their new home. She reaches out to it, holding back her tears. Was this move the right decision for everyone? She clears up the kitchen table then goes to get ready for work. She does her hair in a ponytail and swipes a little powder across her face. Her work uniform consists of a black button up and black trousers. She looks at herself in the mirror and smiles to herself: ‘Another Tuesday in California. We aren’t in Hawkins anymore.’ She grabs her small black handbag, puts on her kitten heels and gets into her new car.
As Joyce’s door slams, the camera cuts to Jonathan exiting his car at the local high school. El and Will get out of the car more reluctantly. There are sounds of chattering school kids and shouting. It’s loud and busy. The buzz of a Tuesday in California.
‘Jonny, over here!’ Hails a boy from across the road to where Jonathan has parked. Jonathan searches for the voice that called him. Then he sees - it’s his new best friend Argyle. Jonathan likes California a lot more than he imagined. He’s no longer the weirdo here. He no longer only has his brother as a friend. He has people his age to talk to, who actually want to talk to him. ‘Hey Will, El, have a good day yeah? I’ll meet you back here at 3, okay?’ Jonathon says.
‘Thanks Jonathan, have a good day.’ El replies, she is evidently nervous.
‘It’s always a good day when I have physics.’ Will continues, ‘Bye Jonathan, see you later.’
Jonathan runs across the road, tightly gripping his satchel in his left hand with his camera in his right. He is greeted cheerily with an embrace from Argyle, who smells heavily of weed, and is probably already high, even if it is 8:30am.
‘Jonathan, I missed you buddy!’
‘Argyle I saw you last less than 24 hours ago, how can you miss me already?’
‘So are you suggesting you didn’t think about me at all? You didn’t miss me?’
‘Of course I missed you Args, you’re my best friend.’
‘You’ll never guess who I delivered a pizza to last night at work!’ Argyle exclaims, his smile wide but his eyes narrow.
‘Surprise me…’
‘Cassi-’
‘-idy Barker, you never fail to shock me Args. Why don’t you just ask her out already? You’ve had a crush on her since, like, 4th grade.’
‘It’s not that simple brother, oh how I wish it was. I love that girl. I have calc with Jefferson, where are you heading J?’
‘Oh I’ve got photography with Miss Anders. East block. Better run.’ Jonathan smiles again as he starts to walk away from his new best friend. But he knows he isn’t going to Miss Anders’ class. He’s going home. To call Nancy.
He lingers behind the bike rails momentarily as he watches the crowds of school kids disappear to their classrooms. His wristwatch ticks on as the bell goes at 8:45. He notices Will and El chatting happily away as they enter the main entrance of the school. Jonathan likes having El around, for Will’s sake. She’s good for him. But part of him misses the bond he once held with his brother. They don’t speak as much as they did when it was just them. He convinces himself he isn’t jealous that Will has El to look out for him now, but he knows he’s hurt by it.
Jonathan proceeds back to his car, to unlock the driver side door. He crouches to get back in as he delicately places his camera on the passenger seat, where Will had been sitting just a short while before, then he puts his satchel down to. He checks his rear view mirror and reverses. The camera follows the car on the journey home. It’s october. The leaves on the trees are various tones of reds, browns and still a lot of green. Autumn in California isn’t the same as in Indiana.
He pulls up outside the new residence of the Byers family. It’s not a bungalow like the house in Hawkins, it has two floors and a wrap-around porch. It is clear that he is flustered. He is late for his call to Nancy. They hadn’t seen each other properly since the Byers’ left Hawkins, but they both felt like their relationship hadn’t changed. Jonathan frantically scrambles to find his house keys, whilst he juggles his camera and the contents of his satchel. As he unlocks the door, he hears the phone ringing in the kitchen. He lunges towards the wall just as it stops ringing. ‘Shit.’ He exclaims.
Hawkins, 1986
Nancy has been watching the clock for an hour. She knew Jonathan would be home at 9am, so she was waiting patiently for him. She was revising for her Math test in the meantime, to distract herself from how slow the clock was ticking. Her alarm rang. It’s time. She eagerly moves from her desk to her bed, and begins to dial his number. Answerphone. ‘It’s okay, he’s just not home yet.’ She tells herself, whilst putting in his number again. Answerphone for the second time. Nancy knows that Jonathan is a loyal and caring boyfriend, but she can’t help the tiny seed of doubt in the back of her mind. She tries for a third time, and decides he has probably forgotten that it’s Tuesday, as the dial tone drones on again for what seemed like hours to her.
She frustratedly slams the phone back onto her bedside table and sighs as she allows herself to fall back onto her bed. She stares at the ceiling, then at the clock: it’s 9:06. He’s forgotten. She misses him more than she allows herself to admit.
The phone rings. She leaps up and grabs the phone.
‘Nancy… I’m so sorry that I’m a little late… Argyle never stops talking.’ Jonathan says, clearly out of breath even through the unstable signal.
‘It’s okay Jonathan… It’s so good to hear your voice. How’s California?’
‘It’s okay. I miss being able to see the seasons. It’s always so hot here. And I obviously miss you, and weirdly, I miss the kids. But Nancy, I’ve made so many friends and I’m so happy. How are you holding up?’
‘I miss you. I hang out with Mike more than ever. He misses El, he’s tried to contact her on the walkie talkies a couple of times, but I don’t think it’s worked. He’s in a slump without her. He’s playing Dungeons and Dragons again…’
‘Oh God… It’s that bad?’
‘Yeah. That bad. I’m so glad you have a friend like Argyle, Jonathan. I hope I can meet him soon.’
‘Oh I’ve been meaning to ask, are we still doing Thanksgiving at yours? El and Will are so excited but I’ve forgotten to ask…’
‘Jonathan, I’m so sorry and I know I should’ve told you sooner, but my mom said she can’t have all of you over anymore, dad invited his brother’s family over instead and mom can’t accommodate everyone. Mike doesn’t know that he isn’t going to be seeing El and Will yet. I can’t break the news to him. I don’t know how. I can’t believe we might not be able to see each other until Christmas. I miss you.’
‘Fuck… The kids are going to be heartbroken. They were really looking forward to coming back to Hawkins, not only for Mike and you and Mrs Wheeler, but obviously Lucas and Max and Dustin’ he pauses, laughs, ‘and even Steve fucking Harrington.’
‘I know, I was so upset when I found out. We were so excited to have you back here, too. It’s so shitty, but we all know how much of a dick my dad can be.’
‘I love you Nancy. I’ll talk to my mom when she gets home from work and see what we can do. She probably wouldn’t mind you guys coming here, but you will need to be with your family…’
‘Everything’s just so complicated now. I wish you never left. Please stay safe. I need you.’
‘Nance, everything was even more complicated before. Remember? My brother got taken to an alternate dimension? Max’s brother got killed by the Mind Flayer? Your best friend-’
‘-okay Jonathan I get the idea. I’m sure it’s easier for you now that you don’t live here anymore. You don’t have to see the places where our friends got hurt.’
‘Nance, come on. You know what I mean. We had to go. For my mom, for Will, for Eleven.’
‘I know, I know. I just don’t feel safe here anymore. I haven’t for a long time.’
‘I fucking wish you could’ve come with us Nance. I miss you so much. It’s nearly time for you to get to school, can’t be skipping during Senior year!’
‘I miss you too, Jonathan. I love you. Wait - aren’t you skipping during senior year?’
‘For a good cause. I get to speak to you. I better run though, before they notice I’m not at school and call my mom. She won’t want another of her children to have gone missing…’ He laughs, wryly.
Nancy laughs half-heartedly. She understands that humour is a coping mechanism for Jonathan. They’ve been through so much. ‘Okay Mr Byers, I best go then… I love you. I’ll call you tomorrow.’
‘Goodbye Miss Wheeler. Speak tomorrow.’
And just like that, their conversation was over. A couple of minutes of conversation was the only interaction they could get each day. Nancy knew that even so, they always had one thing in common, and a scar to remind them: shared trauma.
‘How do you know she’ll have finished school by now, Mike?’ Dustin asked, pedalling his bike.
‘We always skip at this time on a tuesday, 2 o’clock our time and 3 o’clock there, and now we have a strong enough radio, she’ll be able to contact us back.’ Mike grinned, the thought of being able to speak to the small girl he loved was the best possibility. The party arrived back at Mike’s house just as Nancy was pulling in from school, too. Mike had left a note in her locker to be home by 2pm if she wanted to speak to El, Jonathan and Will without racking up Joyce’s phone bill.
The party + Nancy were surprised to see Steve’s car pulling up on the curb with Robin inside, and as Steve got out of the car he yelled:
‘Store was dead today, Keith let us go early.’
Robin hugged Nancy, and they all walked towards the basement.
Mike was fiddling around with the frequency until he got the right one, and picked up the mouthpiece.
‘El, are you there? Over.’
Static crackled for a few moments until el’s voice broke out:
‘Mike, I'm here, over.’ The party all spoke over each other at once before Steve of all people got the mouthpiece.
‘Hey, El, Steve here, how are you and the Byers’ doing?’
‘Good. Pretty good. Sad, we miss.. Home. Tell us, about.. You? Working? Robin?’
‘Oh yeah, Robin, tell everyone about who you met today!’
‘OH okay, well, i met this girl, she had a different sort of accent than everyone from around here, had a group of like, bandits with her too, one guy had like an orange mohawk? Was weird. Anyway, we spoke for ages and she only told me her name before she left.’ Robin mooned into the mouthpiece.
She was met with status until Will’s voice rang out:
‘Well? What was her name?’
‘Oh! Yeah. Sorry. Her name was Kali.’
‘...Kali?’ El spoke, before shutting off her end of the radio.
‘What did I do?’ Robin asked.

2020.11.20 21:39 ParkingOstrich0 QAnon conspiracies before QAnon

Today I was reviewing old texts from a longtime friend (of 30+ years) whom I broke off contact with not long afterwards. It all came vomiting out after discussing a movie in which he was upset that the cast was diverse.
I tried to be empathetic and understand, but the conspiracies struck me as insane and I did not want my children exposed to this mindset and possible danger. It’s taken me years to accept that this friend is likely lost forever and I truly worry for his kids.
The texts are dated from early March 2018. There is no reference to QAnon, but to FBI Anon. In retrospect, I’m curious when Q made its first post and if it was before or after this conversation? There are SO many parallels!
I just wrote them all down to get a grasp on what he was sharing back then. I’m scared to know where he is with his beliefs now. I won’t reach out, but I still care and greatly worry about this person and his family. I am so thankful to this group as it has helped me process the loss and insanity. I am sorry you all are going through this too.

2020.11.20 18:10 financeoptimum The Rothschilds - A Rational Overview

No discussion of Upper Class Billionaires would be complete without the Rothschilds.
A family dynasty synonymous with wealth.
But what is the true extent of this wealth?
Just how powerful is this relatively secretive family?
With various theories circulating on the Internet, can we reach a rational consensus?
Part 1/6 - The Architect?
Mayer Amschel is often cited as the founder of the Rothschild banking dynasty.
In 1770, he married Guttle Schnapper. This boosted Mayer's wealth, as he received a generous dowry of 2,400 gulden from her father (who worked as a court agent).
Mayer wouldn't forget this and, in his will, outlined strict, controversial provisions regarding Rothschild marriages.
Mayer was concerned that the family's fortune would be diluted as it grew through marriages. As such, his will "barred female descendants from any direct inheritance" and, in effect, provided incentives for intermarriages. Four of his granddaughters married grandsons (first cousins), while one married her uncle.
Now, is this really a tale of Started from the Bottom?
Or, much like Drake, is there a rich Uncle involved?
To answer that, we need to ask: who came before Mayer Amschel?
Well, his father, Amschel Moses had a business in goods-trading and currency exchange.
He was a personal supplier of collectable coins to the Prince of Hesse.
We'll come back to that shortly...
We know little about Mayer Amschel's grandparents and more remote ancestors.
The family did previously use the name "Bauer" - in fact the name Rothschild didn't really stick until Mayer Amschel's generation came along.
Benjamin Franklin once observed that in life only death and taxes are inevitable; they are also virtually the only things about which records survive for the earliest Rothschilds.
The most we can say about the early Rothschilds is that they were relatively successful small businessmen dealing in, among other things, cloth.
Five years before his death in 1585, Isak zum roten Schild had a taxable income of 2,700 gulden.
A century later his great-grandson Kalman, a moneychanger who also dealt in wool and silk, had a taxable income more than twice as large.
It seems that his son (Mayer Amschel's grandfather Moses) successfully developed his father's business, continuing the process of steady social ascent by marrying, successively, the daughters of a tax collector and of a doctor.
With the help of relatives, Mayer Amschel secured an apprenticeship under Jacob Wolf Oppenheimer, at the banking firm of Simon Wolf Oppenheimer in Hanover, in 1757, where he acquired useful knowledge in foreign trade and currency exchange, before returning to his brothers' business in Frankfurt in 1763.
He became a dealer in rare coins and, just as his father had done previously, won the patronage of the Prince of Hesse.
His coin business grew to include a number of princely patrons, and then expanded through the provision of financial services to the Prince of Hesse.
In 1769, Mayer Amschel gained the title of "Court Agent", managing the finances of the immensely wealthy Prince of Hesse who in 1785 became William IX, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel, and inherited one of the largest fortunes in Europe at the time.

Part 2/6 - The Five Arrows
The Rothschild coat-of-arms includes a fist clutching five arrows, a reference to Mayer's five sons.
At the turn of the nineteenth century, Mayer sent his sons to establish banks in Frankfurt, Naples, Vienna, France, and London.
The release of the "Five Arrows" symbolises strength through unity, and marks the beginning of the Rothschild's global banking dynasty.

Part 3/6 - Nathan Mayer
Napoleon was on the march through Europe, and William gave his fortune to Mayer Amschel to protect it from being seized by Napoleon.
Mayer was able to hide the money by sending it to his son Nathan in London.
The London Rothschild office had to spend it somewhere, and loaned it to the British Crown, in order to finance the British armies fighting Napoleon in Spain and Portugal in the Peninsular War.
These savvy investments of William's money paid off handsomely, netting sufficient interest that their own wealth eventually exceeded that of their original nest-egg client (the nest-egg client who had inherited the largest fortune in Europe remember).
This marked the birth of the Rothschild banking dynasty.
Historian Niall Ferguson outlines the sheer scale of the Rothschild family's operations:
"For most of the nineteenth century, N M Rothschild was part of the biggest bank in the world which dominated the international bond market. For a contemporary equivalent, one has to imagine a merger between Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, J P Morgan and probably Goldman Sachs too — as well, perhaps, as the International Monetary Fund, given the nineteen-century Rothschild's role in stabilizing the finances of numerous governments."
Nathan pioneered the ingenious strategy of lending to governments during wartime.
This tactic, used when Nathan funded Wellington's army in 1814, is the primary cause of the explosion in the family's wealth during what proved to be 150 years of nearly chronic warfare.
Of course, the Rothschilds played no role in instigating said conflicts...
Continual war in Europe created excellent opportunities to profit from smuggling scarce consumer goods past military blockades. Since the Rothschilds often financed both sides in a conflict and were known to have great political influence, the mere sight of the red shield on a leather pouch, a carriage, or a ship's flag was sufficient to insure that the messenger or his cargo could pass through check points in either direction. This immunity allowed them to deal in a thriving black market for cotton goods, yarn, tobacco, coffee, sugar, and indigo; and they moved freely through the borders of Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, Spain, England, and France.
This government protection was one of those indirect benefits that generated commercial profits - of course they were also getting interest on the underlying government loans.
Even the friendliest of biographers admit that, for more than two centuries, the House of Rothschild profited handsomely from wars and economic collapses, the very occasions on which others sustained the greatest losses.

Part 4/6 - Nat
The Rothschilds tend to keep tend to keep out of the limelight.
One of the family’s grande dames said you should only appear in the newspapers on three occasions: hatch (aka birth), match (aka marriage) and dispatch (aka death).
Therefore, this makes the odd flamboyant Rothschild stand out even more.
One that springs to mind is Nat Rothschild (Jacob Rothschild's son) and ex Bullingdon Club member who in 2016 married former Page 3 model Loretta Basey.
According to Forbes, Nat's net worth was $1 billion in 2012, but he lost his official billionaire status the next year.
However, according to an article in the Observer in 2000, Nat's actual inheritance is hidden in a series of trusts in Switzerland and rumoured to be worth £40BN (i.e. $60 billion.)

Part 5/6 - Ghislaine Maxwell?
Alan Dershoiwtz, who once defended Jeffrey Epstein in court, writes:
"My wife and I were introduced to Ghislaine Maxwell by Sir Evelyn and Lady Lynne de Rothschild..."
Evelyn de Rothschild and his wife Lynn were introduced by none other than Henry Kissinger at the 1998 Bilderberg Group conference in Scotland. They married two years later, and were invited to spend their honeymoon at the White House by the Clintons.
I have an idea!
Let's type Rothschild into the WikiLeaks Hilary Clinton Email Archive.
Nice. 69 results. Let's check out the intercourse between Hilary and Lynn.
How about this one - Info For You on the 25th of September 2010?
In that email chain, we have the following message from Hilary to Lynne.
"Lynn,
I was trying to reach you to tell you and Teddy that I asked Tony Blair to go to Israel as part of our full court press on keeping the Middle East negotiations going. He told me that he had a commitment in Aspen with you two and the conference, but after we talked, he decided to go and asked me to tell you. He is very sorry, obviously, but I'm grateful that he accepted my request. I hope you all understand and give him a raincheck...Let me know what penance I owe you. And please explain to Teddy. As ever, H"

Part 6/6 - True Extent
We come to the kicker: what is true extent of the Rothschild's wealth?
Of course, it is impossible to pin down an exact number because of the level of diversification of their wealth and the secrecy with which the offshore infrastructure operates.
After all, we know what happens to those that try to expose this shady world.
Worryingly, Panama is only one of more than 90 financial secrecy jurisdictions around the world today, compared with just a dozen or so in the early 1970s.
Together, as of 2015, they hold at least $24 trillion to $36 trillion in anonymous private financial wealth, most of which belong to the top 0.1 percent of the planet’s wealthiest.
Of course, none of this offshore wealth belongs to the Rothschilds...
In 2003, the Sunday Times identified Jacob Rothschild as the secret holder of the large stake in Yukos that was previously controlled by Mikhail Khodorkovsky, the oil company's chairman.
The size of this stake? £8 billion.
In 2003, the pound dollar exchange rate was 1.63 - therefore the dollar value of the stake was around $13 billion.
In 2017, Jacob's net worth was pegged at under one billion dollars.
According to the Forbes List, the richest individual Rothschild is Benjamin de Rothschild, from the French branch of the family, with a net worth of $1.5BN.
This is despite the fact that Benjamin presides over the Edmond de Rothschild Group, which manages over $175 billion in assets. In August 2019, de Rothschild's family bought out the group's public shareholders.
But yes, of course Benjamin, supposedly the richest Rothschild, is worth 2/3 of Donald Trump.
Speaking of Donald Trump...
Trump at one time owned a quarter of Atlantic City’s casino market.
However, Trump was heavily in debt, and he started missing bond payments on his — and Atlantic City’s — largest casino, the Taj Mahal, in 1990.
Wilbur Ross, then an investment banker working for...you guessed it, Rothschild Inc., helped bondholders negotiate with Trump, whose finances were unraveling. The final deal reduced Trump’s ownership stake in the Taj but left him in charge, and bondholders were unhappy when Ross presented the plan.
“Why did we make a deal with him?” one bondholder asked.
Ross insisted that Trump was worth saving.
“The Trump name is still very much an asset,” he said.
In 2017, Ross became Secretary of Commerce.
Remember folks: Presidents are selected... not elected.

No discussion of Upper Class Billionaires would be complete without the Rothschilds.

CIA Director Suspected Wounded After US Military Raid On Secret German Election Base
By: Sorcha Faal, and as reported to her Western Subscribers
A gobsmacking new Security Council (SC) report circulating in the Kremlin today discussing events relating to Day 15 of the election war currently raging in America, first centers its focus on a document prepared by the General Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces (GRU) relating to the unexplained exfiltration from Afghanistan of a CIA-backed paramilitary group being closed in on by human rights groups—a document that reveals GRU military intelligence analysts turned over their investigation into this matter to the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) after this CIA-backed paramilitary group arrived at Ramstein Air Base, which is a United States Air Force base located in Rhineland-Palatinate-Germany—that then sees the focus of Security Council Members being shifted to a classified at the highest level “Of Special Importance” document of history, facts and currents events compiled by SVR intelligence analysts.
An SVR document whose only contents permitted to be openly commented on by various ministries includes the July-2014 shock expulsion from Germany of the CIA station chief for his crime of turning German intelligence employees into double agents—that was followed by the equally shocking Wikileaks revelation that CIA agents working under the Obama-Biden Regime were given cover identities and diplomatic passports to enter Germany—whose base was used to develop hacking tools as part of the CIA's massive digital arsenal—saw it further being revealed that a top secret CIA unit used the German city of Frankfurt am Main was the starting point for numerous hacking attacks on Europe, China and the Middle East—and showed that this CIA unit developed trojans and other malicious software in the American Consulate General Office, the largest US consulate in the world.
A secret cyber crime unit created and under the direct command of top CIA officer Anthony Schinella, who after being expelled from Germany returned to the United States—and on 14 June 2020, the CIA reported that Schinella committed suicide by shooting himself in the head—a claim SVR intelligence analysts dispute, with their assessment being that the CIA suicided Schinella [see our 29 August 2020 report “Top CIA Officer Spreading Russia Bounty Lies And Linked To Biden-Harris Satanism Suicided”]—and further sees the SVR having determined that the suiciding-killing of Schinella was ordered by retired US Army Major General Bert Mizusawa, whom President Trump had strategically placed at the CIA before this election began [see our 8 October 2020 report “CIA General Wages Secretive War Against Democrats Pulling Seth Rich From Grave”].
All of which has led the SVR to assess that a covert war has broken out between elements of the US military and the CIA—specifically because the CIA was discovered controlling the results of this presidential election through the computer servers it operates from its secret base at the American consulate in Frankfurt-Germany—but while occurring, saw these CIA servers being monitored by the FBI—and as cryptically just revealed by FBI Director Christopher Wray, who when speaking remotely to the World Economic Forum, Annual Meeting on Cybersecurity 2020: Enabling the Great Reset yesterday, saw him discussing his spy agencies’ cyber crime capabilities, to include his stating “That herculean effort included contributions by investigators in more than 40 jurisdictions, Europol, the Shadowserver Foundation, a German research institute”, and his ending his remarks with the words: “The FBI is ready to play”.
The critical significance of which was FBI Director Wray acknowledging for the first time the Americans were working with the German research institute Shadowserver Foundation—whose capabilities and expertise allows them to monitor in real time every computer server in the world and know what they are doing in real time—most particularly what the CIA servers at the American consulate in Frankfurt were doing during the presidential election—that resulted in a US Special Forces raid on the Frankfurt consulate during the early morning hours of 6 November—who then battled against the fighters brought into Germany by the CIA from Afghanistan—the known casualties, so far, include five US Army troops the Americans lyingly claimed died in a helicopter crash in the Sinai-Egypt, that stands opposed to the real truth that “An Egyptian official speaking on condition of anonymity per regulations said the helicopter crashed over Red Sea waters outside Egyptian territorial boundaries”—which is how the Americans have always concealed their deaths in secret operations—and of whose suspected casualties, the SVR includes CIA Director Gina Haspel, that they believe was seriously wounded—though as yet, the SVR has not determined what side CIA Director Haspel was backing, other than them noting that when this raid occurred, President Trump’s oldest son, Donald Trump Jr., denounced CIA Director Haspel as “a trained liar”.
A raid in whose aftermath saw Republican Party leader US Congressman Louis Gohmert saying that the US Army had raided a European software company in Germany named Scytl and had seized the computer servers used to corrupt the American presidential election—though a few hours ago, Congressman Gohmert modified his words to include US intelligence agency involvement in this crime, and further saw him saying that now that they’ve analyzed the computer data confiscated and there are 410 electoral votes for Trump - a landside victory! [Note: Some words and/or phrases appearing in quotes in this report are English language approximations of Russian words/phrases having no exact counterpart.]
True result of the 3 November 2020 election (above) proving President Donald Trump landslide victory is being kept hidden from the American people.
According to this report, at near the same time that President Trump’s legal team was summoned to the White House for an emergency meeting yesterday, White House national security adviser Robert C. O’Brien said at the Global Security Forum: “If the Biden-Harris ticket is determined to be the winner, and obviously things look that way now, we’ll have a very professional transition from the National Security Council…There’s no question about it”—a “things look that way now” cryptic comment made by national security advisor O’Brien, however, that was quickly followed by America’s top election official, Federal Election Commission Chairman James E. “Trey” Trainor III, posting the message: “Having practiced law for almost 2 decades as a member of the State Bar of Texas, I’ve never known fellow TX lawyer @SidneyPowell1 to be anything but forthright and honest in every case she’s ever taken on…If she says there is rampant voter fraud in #Election2020, I believe her”—a message supporting Super Lawyer Sidney Powell, who is vowing to “Release The Kraken” against those attempting to steal this election, and states:
President Trump won this election in a landslide. It’s going to be irrefutable.
Patriots are coming forward everyday, all day, faster than we can collect their information with testimony they’re willing to give under oath about how their votes were stolen and how the machines operated.
I can hardly wait to put forth all the evidence that we have collected on Dominion, starting with the fact that it was created to produce altered voting results in Venezuela for Hugo Chavez and then shift internationally to manipulate votes for purchase in other countries, including this one.
It was funded by money from Venezuela and Cuba and China has a role in it also, so if you want to talk about foreign election interference we certainly have it now.
We have staggering statistical evidence, we have staggering testimony from witnesses including one who was personally in briefings when all this was discussed and planned beginning with Hugo Chavez and how it was designed there.
This is essentially a new American revolution.
And anyone who wants this country to remain free needs to step up right now.
These are federal felonies. Altering a vote or changing a ballot is felony.
People need to come forward now and get on the right side of this issue, report the fraud they know existed in the Dominion voting system because that’s what it was created to do.
It was its sole, original purpose.
It has been used all over the world to defy the will of people who wanted freedom.
In support of the massive election fraud assertions made by Super Lawyer Powell, this report details, the evidence of foreign interference.....stunningly reveals Dominion Voting Systems Vice President of US Engineering Eric Coomer spoke with Antifa members on conference calls and assured them and other participants by saying: “Don’t worry about the election, Trump’s not gonna win…I made fucking sure of that!”
